I hope you find what you're looking for buddy. I understand where you're coming from. You work your *** off day in and day out to put a roof over your families heads and food in their mouths and just want a little something to do for FUN with your family on a Saturday night and you don't want to have to wait until you're in your late fifties and have your finances all in tip top shape in order to enjoy it. There's nothing wrong with borrowing money to get what you want as long as you can pay it off. I want what you want and I've got just about everything needed to make it happen. Just need to put it all together. I've got less than 3000 into my truck. I'd say I've spent about 1500 of it on my credit card. I should be able to enjoy it a few times before the snow flies again this Fall. Good luck and keep your chin up! Ignore the naysayers...

well people on here have helped me out, but i'm not looking for a car and i work too, except for getting laid off from time to time, i'm grateful for the good people who have helped me, God bless them, but i'm just trying to survive, I would sell my project if i had to,but it's an off topic import, and no one would give me anything for it, i'm not selling my ten year project for s**** thats for sure, also my dad picked it out so it's not for sale anyway. Why not do what was suggested and look for the parts people are giving away in the cl***ifieds, start collecting parts, I don't think anyone is going to just give away a running driving car, if you search long enough you might find an engine and transmission to rebuild, thats the first step, then start looking for someone giving away a frame, then a body, the idea is to take other peoples junk and build a car out of it, not have someone just give you the car.

had another suggestion, if you don't have a garage and are in a house, get one of those two car carports, anchor it down, then build some sides and a front and back for it, put a roll up door in it,or a regular door, you can even hinge the entire front to swing open, they are self supporting, then when the car is done, take off the front to roll it out. lots of people around here do that, those car ports can be had for 600 bucks around here. someone giving away a car is kind of a bad subject anyway for me, my stepdaughter was just given a really nice 2000 minivan, and in the space of two months, they trashed it,blew the motor up,and left it on the side of 75, not given away by me,but by a really nice member of their church, get some parts you can use, and start a project from there, i would suggest putting some of that money into the carport first though, need a place to work.

just keep looking man.. dont borrow the money unless you can afford to pay out for something you like..I. not saying this to get down on you.. I really know how it is..I got layed off, have a 3yr old daughter, lost my benifits..sold 4 bikes, been paying out 250 bucks a month for a 2001 lincoln ls that has sat in my driveway for a year because I sunk 3 grand in a month in it and it broke down again..my wife is 37, on her 7th..yes 7..pacemaker.. and guess what? doc says the pacemaker leads are bad and she has to have them replaced and will not be able to pick anything up or go to work for 8 weeks. I'm making 4 bucks an hour less now, and cant take a second job cause half the week my wife who now has the benifits, works nights and days the other half.Been trying to sell a a 68 f100 project I started to do from frame up for 3grand, when I got more then that in just the parts.I got a 50 shoebox that I traded a bike for a year ago,and havent been able to touch it..oh yeah and the vet tells me that the dog needs teeth pulled, the cat has a thyroid problem and wants over 3500 to get both of them straighten out..hell all I want to do is sell the truck and put rockers and floors in my 50..Id be happy just to have the wife's ticker better, the pets in good shape, and knowing tomorrow is gonna be better then today..so advice from someone that knows where your coming from.. save up for what you really want, and everynow and then put 50 bucks aside and take the kid to a carshow and make a day out of it..

First of all sorry to hear about your wife. Hope she has a fast recovery.

I've been a member on HAMB all of about 48 hours and and I could see real quick that everyone of these guys work hard for what they drive. I can tell by reading that they bend over backwards for those that help themselves, but you work for what you got.

Use to own a 57 bel air and had to sell it to pay the bills after loosing a company as a result of 9/11 - hardest day of my life to see it pulling away from my driveway.

Just remember two things - Ain't nothing in this world free, no matter how much you want to believe it,

    and

the guy with the story about how he scrimped and saved, sweat and bled, and built his dream from a pile of rust in the yard is so much cooler than the guy who says "someone gave it to me".

BE THAT COOL GUY and GOOD LUCK

I have nothing negative to say. Hell , sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me. I'm all for any free old cars anybody wants to throw my way....well as long as there two door , running ....AND you'll deliver them to me.

Dude, really. You do you have any pride man? Honestly I'm not tryin' to be a ***.But I have an ex-wife and child support. Hell , I'm eatin' Raman noodles til NEXT friday cause I over-shot my budget on buying ONE wheel for my car. Again , Not tryin' to be ****ty but your stipulations on a free car are a bit appalling. Good luck though.... I guess...

to bad you didn't live a little closer, the night before last i went and picked up a free car shelter that had no tarp, found it on craigslist, the guy also had a 48 or so chevy pickup sitting in the car port and hadnt drove it in 5 years, would sell it for $2000, it was a one ton with a 9ft box, had a 235 in it as well, i think a good weekend and you could drive the dam thing, a few bubbles in the red paint was all i saw for rust. its not advertised i just asked about it while i was there, maybe someone closer would like to check it out.

thanks man, I'm hoping they do,but if it all has to go, it will..thats just the way of it..if I make it to 85, am half blinded, stuck on meds,I wont be able to drive a hotrod,or a custom around,so it wont mean ****, but as long as I still got my family, life has been good..I know where the guy is coming from.. and hell he has got some good offers, even iif it means traveling to pick em up..cant be picky when on the short end, but better to wait until he has something in the pocket, something he likes enuff to keep going on it.. and time to do it.

I'm with the ya got to earn your car group. I injured my back 4 years ago to the point of not returning to work at my regular job, been living off 1/6 th of my old wages. I got a family of 5 here with a mortgage and all the bills, thank God my girlfriend works and it ain't nothing to brag about.
The point is I got projects in the garage that I have horse traded or built a piece at a time but have earned all of it and had nothing handed to me. The car on the road isn't finished and probably never will be but I sure enjoy the hell out of it while others point and laugh. Maybe I got to much pride or just think different than you but there would be no way in hell I'd come on here and ask for a free car. Then when offered one have problems with what is being offered, you've got to be kidding me !

Hey, dhughins, there is a reason guys like Dave Ramsey are on the air. You need to listen to the man's sage advise. DO NOT borrow money for a project! Wait until you have the $$$ in hand, THEN go and search for your dream car. NEVER, EVER borrow money for the reasons you give. Jeopardizing your family's financial future for the want of short-term personal satisfaction is wrong in every way imaginable. Never mind, the damn Federal Government is incapable of doing this, but individuals MUST do it. Save for the future, and then get what you want. Even if it is just $30 or $40 per paycheck, it adds up quick, and in a year or so, you will have CASH to use to get what you want. Common sense would dictate this plan of action. The "give" part of your initial post really galled me and many others here, just so you are aware. Good luck in your pursuits.

this is what i'm talking about, get one of these, anchor it down, add some sides and a front and back, and presto,a place to work, if you have to, get some heavy plywood, treat it with thomsons water seal, and make a wooden floor. better then a lot of people have, then you have somewhere to work. You need to start telling everyone you know you are looking for an old car to tinker with. THen they need to tell everyone they know. Eventually you will hit someone that knows somebody trying to get rid of a car if someone will just come get it.

PS does any one have a free engine wiring harness for a 68 C10? Thanks. :D
