found i 6400 1950 p\u with a good front clip but i need to know if the hood and grill are the same as my 3100 50 p\u i was told that the feanders are diff but that is all it's not close but the price is right if it works thanks james
As far as I know the hood is the same. The fenders have the larger wheel wells. From looking at this site http://www.carolinarodshop.com/finished_proj/html_files/1950_chevy_6400_1.htm it is a two ton.
I think the hood is the same The grill is different and to put regular truck fenders on a big truck cab you have to redrill the holes where the fenders attach to the cab
I'm not too familiar with the 'Big Trucks' but for a definitive answer, you could do worse than try these guys.... http://www.stovebolt.com/ They have a specific section for Big Bolts. It might be worth a look. Good luck.
...if it's a 6400, it's most likely not a pickup, it WILL have a different hood, (not as tall, made flatter for the taller/bigger fenders),it has bigger fenders, and a taller grille(they have more space between the bars). All 1 ton and smaller trucks use the same front sheetmetal.
My answer came from GM's own Restro-Pack right HERE. That & the fact I have owned a 1/2ton, 1ton and a 1.5ton truck Chevy Truck and wanted to use the 1.5ton stuff on my 1ton because it was perfect sheet metal. Only after taking a tape measure to it did I see the differents & when I got my resto-pack it comfirmed it all. The ONLY thing you can use is the grill bars themselves to make a grill for the smaller trucks. BUT even then the grill bars are about 1/2inch taller then the 1/2ton & 1ton grills ..joe
You might be surprised how many Stovebolt'rs are also on the HAMB, including one of the people stating here that the hood is different. Next time you get close to a Big Bolt look at the rear corners of the hood. They are much different than those on a smaller truck. Ignoring the COE trucks, but otherwise to be a little more complete, the 6400 is the biggest Chevrolet and is called a 2-ton. GMC made larger trucks and some of those have even larger fenders than the Chevy big trucks. Chevy cabs are the same, but anything bigger than a 1-ton has the bigger fenders, grill and hood. GMC made trucks large enough even the cabs are different. By the way, the grill bars are the same, its the framework holding them in place that is different. If you find a good Big Bolt grill grab it for the grill bars.
Steve, I'm sorry to say but on the 1.5 & bigger trucks the grills are the same lenght BUT they are about 1/2 inch taller. I know this because I had disagree w/a member over on the Bolt about them being different until I measure the one I have in my truck which made out of a BIGGG AD truck and the stock 1ton grill that I had that was damaged. The difference was about 1/2 inch & the larger truck grill bars are taller....joe
Joe I wish I were never wrong, but experience tells me otherwise... I have one of each out back, I guess I need to do some measuring! For the record my Chevy 1-ton panel currently has hood, fenders and grill from a 450 series GMC. That stuff is huge compared to the rest of the truck.
