A friend of mine asked my Dad and I to come have a look at his old coupe body a couple months ago to see if we could tell him what it was. He has had it for quite awhile but has never got around to doing anything with it. He said it was a Plymouth so it took us awhile to go have a look. We were a little surprised when we saw what it was. We had to pack it through snow up to our knees for about a hundred yards but I think it was worth the effort. I have played hockey with this guy for years and I even worked for him one summer and had no idea the body even existed.
It has no floor in it at all, most of the firewall has been cut out and the lower cowl and rockers are gone as well so we are on the lookout for some more parts. We managed to make a trade for the remains of a 33 4 dr today and hopefully that will get us headed in the right direction. My Dad already had the frame so eventually we should end up with something. We are always looking for old Ford stuff up here and have found very little 33-34 stuff so I think we were pretty lucky to find the coupe and the 4dr as well.
We also managed to find a w/s frame, running boards and a cut up parts cowl last weekend at the Red Deer Swap Meet. We are still in search of a lot more parts but we have a couple more projects to finish up before we get at this one so that should give us some time to work with.
Here are some photos when we first went to see it.

Both are terrific finds and will both save.
I can't get over it; a coupe body sitting out in the snow (not placed inside or even covered). How long has it been there???

I think he drug it out into the open last fall. He had it tucked away in the bush before that for quite awhile. You could easily see it from the road but there is only one place past his and it is not a thru road so there is no traffic that goes past where it was. About 300 yards the other direction though one of our local pack rats lives and he would have had it in a minute if he had seen it.
It will be a traditional car for sure. We got a heavy 32 axle yesterday with the 4 door so I think that would work good up front. Still have to collect a bunch more parts before we can get thinking too far ahead though.

  9. Nice find! Theres still cars in them there hills! there is still a lot of old ford stuff tucked away in fields and barns all over BC congrats!

  10. You got the makins of a couple of cool cars there!

The guy thinks he has the grill shell and second headlight hanging up somewhere as well. We will stay in touch!
Looks like we might be on the right track. Hopefully our luck holds.

When we were all loaded up and ready to go the guy asked us if we might be interested in an old bucket as well.

Well I bet you guys were pretty satisfied with that day....

Let me guess... while driven home you came up on two dry bags full of cash....

and picked up The Hawaiian Tropic Bikini Team when their bus broke.

I mean what a cool score.

We were very happy with just the 34. I think it is too good to cut up as a parts car for the Coupe but we will be able to do something with it.
The bucket was just a bonus and I have no idea what it is or what we will end up doing with it but I was sure happy to haul it away for the guy.
We took a friend out with us on the second trip to get the bucket, he ended up getting the 57 Ford 2 door post you can see in the first picture, so we did spread the luck around a little.
I hope the luck holds long enough so that we get the grill shell as well.

Dang! There seems to be a lot of stuff just sitting around outside up there. Nice scores.

FYI...that appears to be a 303-324 Olds Rocket in the T-bucket.

It is an old Olds engine with some kind of manual trans? The guy also gave us an olds hydro as well.
The guy we got it from said the motor had been rebuilt and he took it to somebody to get body work done. It sat waiting for the body work for too long and the multiple carb intake and other parts disappeared. The body work never got done so he drug it back home and lost interest.
Not sure what we will do with it but it was way too neat to leave behind.

Great score Alcan! I'm from the Peace Country myself, left their 15 years ago, I sure do miss the Summers! About 25 years ago I was doing a Hotshot delivery to a Rig just outside of Rolla, on our way back my Wife yelled STOP I just found you a '34 Coupe! Now I thought, yeah right, you wouldn't know a '34 if it reached up and bit you, she was 19 at the time, and I didn't think she was paying attention, so to humor her, I stopped, backed up, and what do you know, about 500 yards off the road, behind a barn, sat a '34 5 window coupe. So, keeping my cool, we pulled in, but no one was home! After checking out the car I couldn't believe what I was seeing, a 90% complete roller, no interior and some other minor pieces, but other that it was cherry. I drove over to the neighbors and got the name of the lady that lived their, and called as soon as I got home. I finally got ahold of her, found out it was her sons car, and he had just decided to sell it, but he was working in Tumbler Ridge and he would have to call me. I left my name and number, and asked to please have him call, and sure enough he called later that night, $1200 for the car. What are we going to do, we don't have that kind of money, so my Wife and I, newly married, with one job between us, promptly arranged for a Yard Sale the following weekend and hocked a bunch of stuff we got from our wedding a few months earlier, and raised $1200 to buy the car. After trying to get back in touch with him for a week or so, I finally got ahold of him, only to find out the car had just been sold! To this day I still kick myself for not borrowing the money from someone, anyone, to buy that car that day. And, I have been looking for one ever since! I think in all fairness, you should sell me that one, I'm sure there is something in the Hotrodders code of conduct that would justify this demand? Seriously, if you have any interest, I'll be in Fort St John August 21st, and would be more than happy to lug a trailer along to haul it home. If not, and I realize probably not, but a guys gott ask, congrats and good luck on your project, keep us posted! On a side note I have come to discover when my wife yells stop, I listen, she has an eagle eye and has found me tons of great treausres these last 25 years, just not another coupe.......

Sorry Pogo, we are going to hang onto this one.
Did you ever find out where the one you found went or who got it?

Yeah, probably 5-7 years later I came accrosss the guys number and called him up, he told me the name of the fellow on the coast who bought. I called, the car had been done for a couple years, so I was definatley out of luck.
