I've made the decision to pull the stinkbug duece av8 frame from out from under my coupe and go with a kiwi connection av8 frame. My goal with the car is to take it in a more period correct 40s,50s lake style car (though coupes where seldom) I have a few questions regaurding compatibility of my current parts and if they will work stance wise. I do not want to end up having to part out the hole car. and from what research i have done id like to utilize the leaf springs I have as well as the banger rearends mounts, and not have to search for all the stuff and loose money that i dont need too.

I plan on taking Duane my core parts as in rearend and leaf springs, as well as my front leaf, axle and suspension.

the front leafs i assume will only work a notch in the frame, the rear of the frame is notched as well. with the taller leaf spring and the axle sits about 1-2 inches inside the frame. I'm ok with having a straight non stink bug frame with a slightly lower stance that a typical highboy.

I've seen Nimrods roadster on a duece frame with a slightly lower stance and it looks really good just confused mainly on the rear leaf spring crossmember and the difference between mine and the shallower model a one Will I beable to utilize all my parts, leaf springs, suspension components, banger rearend, and still keep a period correct stance?(thow a tad lower) I mainly am concerned with my rear leaf spring if i go to the shallower crossmember wont i have to change the leaf spring out as well? and most likely the mounting points will change? or can i just use the taller style crossmember with the same leaf in it

sorry for the confusing post hope you guys can see what I'm trying to say.in the end i want to utilize as much of my parts i already have in the swap....pretty much have the same frame without the stinkbug swoop in it so i can run a hood

here are some pics of my current setup and crossmember as well as cars current stance which im not a fan of at all id be fine with it less the pie cut and kick up in the frame I sold the wheels and tires and have 750 firestones and 500 firestone grooved dirt track tires on order

  3. Why not just "unstinkbug" what you have? too me, the only problem is the piecut at the cowl, it is too big.

now that im reading my post and thinking out loud, Heres my take on it.

-sell my frame have duane me a standard av8 frame no notches in the front
-buy a standard leaf spring for the front
-my rear leaf spring and everything the same in the rear but have him use a standard model A crossmember

that way all im buying is the front leaf spring and the frame will be a standard av8 highboy frame.

am I on the right track?

I was thinking of doing that...i got the car as it sits in a trade. for the cost of a new av8 frame from kiwi, Id like to do the swap and start it exactly how i want it... and just sell this frame off.

when you drop the front end down and notch it isnt it because you use a spring with less arch or is the crossmember just dropped accordingly and all the leafs up front are the same

its more to do with the arch of the crossmember i think. the flatter the crossmember, the more likely youd need to notch the frame due to spring interference. if it arches down, the spring wont hit
