  1. So, I miss a few particular HAMBers that I fear will never return to the board. I think you may know our latest loss to the board who was one of the biggest contributors of coverage to the whole California scene. Another HAMBer used to make me fear the random thoughts that would be spouted at FNGs and people who were obviously on the wrong site he put them in their place. It seems there are more and more people joining who do not have a care or clue as to what is proper for the board; yet they are still being catered to while we lose or people go silent on the board who have been here since the beginning. I was wondering if anyone else had the same sentiments as I and what your thoughts are on whether pictures should be pulled outta peoples profiles even if they are not readily accessible to everyone because someone complains to the mods? Do you think that the board is growing to a point where there is less and less good information being presented and more and more ****? Or am I lost with my thoughts here?

Mods I would appreciate you letting this thread cruise for a little while. Might find some helpful things from what others say if they choose to stand-up and be counted.

I do not want to hear the BS about I am new as of 08' either. I lurked here from 2002 on until I had a proper on-topic vehicle.-Weeks

i have seen some pretty good threads get closed for no good reason. i have seen them shut down when people start gettin a little heated over some subjects, i say let them argue! i had one get shut down myself, and all it was about was having a bad week painting black cars. i definitely think they crack the whip a little to quick! i also say let this thread take its co****.

I didn't vote in your poll above but my OPINION is this:
The Hamb is the best thing to happen to the internet EVER, that said it is still just the internet. If you don't like the way the board is run, then leave or start your own board.

  7. I missed the response on that thread so I stand corrected as to that deal with Bob. I was waiting to see him come back to the thread about gold diggers last ride but he is gone and Ryan closed the thread. I still want your fellas and gals thoughts out there. This is not a thread about Bob its a poll for you to air your thoughts. I think the mods do a great job but they have really clamped down on somethings and I see from Ryans response that he sometimes has no control. 21 people complained on Bob wow. Lock your albums to freinds only folks.-Weeks

The rules are set,... and although we are members, Alliance members, fng's whatever, our ***ociation with the Jalopy Journal / HAMB is up to the discretion of the moderators,... we don't have to pay dues, attend a certain amount of times, subscribe,.... all we have to do is follow the rules,.. And the the rules stand !,...

I have had some posts closed myself, I knew when I posted them I was potentially going out on a limb, but tried anyway. I am just thankful I have a place like the HAMB to hang out,.... there is nothing else like it on the internet.

If someone disobeys the rules and gets upset when there are called out on it and decides to leave,... that's there decision. I personally don't want to see anybody leave (especially Bad Bob,... he's like a permanent fixture around here),... but were all adults here (at least we should be), and we make our own decisions.

Ryan never asked any of us over, he just opened the door and we all streamed in, I hope the party keeps rolling on. I don't know what caused any posts to be shut down, but from what I've seen over the years the Mods do a great job of keeping things on track. Whatever the problem was with one long time HAMBer I hope it gets fixed and he comes back.

Just read this post after posting the above one.

I've been on many sites where the moderators are like Nazi's. This one is pretty free and wide open by comparison. I was just booted off one last week! I like ***'s and *** as much as the next guy, but there are THOUSANDS of sites where any one of you can get your fill of that. This is the only site I know where my Hot-rod fix is cured on a regular basis. Shouldn't be anyone that gets their ******* in a wad about that.

And I don't know Bob, but apparently he has some fans. You listening Bob?

I love this place and don't appreciate stuff that doesn't belong.
I lurked for a while to learn what does belong.

My current '51 project is only 1/2 HAMB friendly so I don't show/talk about the other 1/2, out of respect of Ryan's rules.

If your postings get deleted or get you booted, TOUGH ****, read the rules.

It does stink when you start loosing "early members" because it's gotten too off topic for them. Many of them are the core of information provided here. Without the "old guys" what do you have?

Just another car site instead of "The" car site.

As I understand it the ultimate sanction lies with the web hosting service - guys who are probably not hot rodders. If they have certain policies then they will enforce. The mods seem to do a pretty good job and it is not always easy to make the correct judgment call. So bear in mind that it may not be the mods who have the ultimate say.

That having been said, I would not bet on the longevity of this thread.

I have seen countless guys leave this place. Some of them are pure genius builders. Do a search on here for threads from 5 or 6 years ago. Guys like Glen, Ahotrod, and Samiyam and all of those. They pretty much left and it's a real loss.

They didn't leave over moderation issues. They left because this place has gotten soft. O/T **** everywhere. You know the type of stuff. Someone's buddy dies or tattoos or totally O/T car questions. That **** didn't fly then. It does now. Times change.

looks like no one is not suppose to post risk type pix......
and it appears Ryan notified you of what happen.

sounds like a reasonable deal to me..

    lets talk traditional stuff....

how about a pix of your ride?

I think the moderators do a great job...and I agree ****/****** has no place in the forum.

Several years back when I was still working I occ***ionally surfed the HAMB while I was at work (everything was caught up and it was either that or twiddle my thumbs). It was close to Halloween and someone had posted a photo of a 90 year old **** witch which I glanced at, forgot and kept on paging down the posts. Unfortunately for me our computers were checked for images every evening and the next morning in walked the **** police to take my hard drive for their investigation. Since I was a contract worker I could have/should have been fired but thankfully I had been there for 15 years, had an excellent work record and the powers above realised it was an aberation and just slapped my wrist.

Should I have been surfing during working hours? NO!
Should there have been a **** photo on the HAMB? NO!

Sure they post some, but you've been here long enough to know they don't post like they used to. I'm talking build threads and real tech stuff.

When you join HAMB you are expected to adhere to the rules. No exceptions. Ryan is very fair.

If somebody bails because there **** was pulled, there just a big ****in cry baby (with red antlers painted on there car)

Iv personally tried to stick up for this place and its rules (AND BOB (your welcome))and had the mods kick me in the nuts. So now I longer care, its not mine.
The bottom line is, the guys that run this place can and will do what they want. So this thread is pointless. But im sure they will disagree.

ive had at least 4 post deleted for various reasons.. no big deal.. the HAMB has its good and bad times.. sometimes there nothing but a bunch of BS threads clogging it up and other times there is really good hot rod and custom related posts. you have to take the good with the bad i guess. IMHO

Gaurantee you wouldn't say that to my dads face! BTW-It's spelled "their",DUMB***!
He loves the HAMB and told EVERYBODY he met to join. He's had other stuff deleted before and it didn't bother him at all. This one bothered him. Ryan sent him an e-mail and explained everything so he's back to himself. He's starting his own webpage with just event coverage. Should be up in about a week or so. I bet you he will still lurk on here, haha. He's addicted to the HAMB.
All his friends keep sending me PM's,so I can relay messages. That's okay,i don't care. Stumpy.

  28. Things change, like it or not. This board may not be the way it was 5 years or 10 years ago, but what is?. There was a time when what is now called traditional was called contempory.
I don't l like the blending or misuse of terms or catagories, seems everything now can be a "g***er" I see people driving '50's era cars with tatoos covering their bodies, only tats I saw back then were on sailors, and piercings???, I see women trying to look like the '50's but they look more like WWII pinups or bomber nose art. I don't like it but that isn't going to change it. I see people calling any sedan from the '50s a "shoebox" anything without a top a roadster, and any removable top a Carson Top. Fact is few kids in the '50s wore jeans and leather jackets, most kids cars had paint and upholstery, at least they wanted it to. flake steering wheel didn't come around till the '60s. and most kids didn't use the language that is common on this board.
However facts only matter to historians, I believe this site is meant to be fun, Ryan does a good job of keeping it fun, I see lots of stuff I would not allow if I had a board.
This is not the same board the old timers remember, for better or worse and getting mad isn't going to change that. In life change is the constant, if you don't grow you become obsolete and die.
    Just one old fools opinion

Actually in this case it would be "they're" as in "they are" Sorry, I had to :D

But anyway, keep us updated on his site. I know I lurked around for your dad's posts as he always had good coverage of shows out there, T&A aside... not that I'm complaining.

Weeks46, maybe you've just outgrown the HAMB? Maybe you should move on?

I don't say that aggressively. I say that as a realist... This place is not and never will be for everyone.

In any case, we do the best we can and just hope it's good enough for most. If you are into traditional hot rods and customs, I think we are pretty damn good. If you are into other things, I can see why you would get frustrated with us.
