http://superior54.com/ http://superior54.com/super54/Body/super54-body.html Now in reproduction, glass like the original. Personally, I am glad to see this being reproduced along with the Tucker Torpedo. I just wish I could afford them. r
$125,000 is a little out of my budget too this year. If I had endless amount of money then it would be tempting.
Wow, thats cool, but big money for just a 'glass roller! Now if we can get someone to reproduce the "corvair" concept from '54.
Saw it on display at the vendor's booth at BTTF's. Kinda neat, if you don't mind the modern Corvette running gear.
The fiberglass shell is the least expensive part. The real money is in all the hinges, trim, window glass, bumpers, etc. Tooling costs for all that is what drives the price into the stratsphere.
I know its just a kit car, but I have yet to see a waldorf nomad replica that looks right, the car was considerably smaller than the 55 chev nomad that most people base thier builds on, and it was a little bigger than the 53 'vette. I have read that it was sitting on a 54 chev wagon frame, which is a little longer than the vettes. this replica looks like it was taken off the 55 nomad a guy did a few years back that was chopped and sectioned to get it in proportion, however he didn't shorten it to get the look dead on...
I remember seeing a picture of this "Corvette Nomad" as a little boy and it's just always stuck with me for some reason. I guess it's just a great-looking, memorable car. Anyway, I know it's a phantom and these days, even I'm a little tired and weary or being overwhelmed by "Gasser" everything, but could you imagine this car being done up Gasser style? Magnesium Halibrands or 5-spoke Americans, pie-crust slicks, early Olds rear, Hilborn injection, chromed front straight axle, etc. Now that, would be a bad machine!
My goal was to take a 54, either a basket case body, or one that was a cheaper repop (missed one on ebay) and make it a nomad. Well I guess I missed on that one. Nice but how many other cars could I do for that kind of money.
I think it goes pretty well with the car. If you don't like it, I guess you could put a 53 Chevy clip under it like all Corvettes through 62 ran. :^( Larry T
You beat me to it That's exactly what I was thinking. Sky high, no front bumper, radiused wheel wells, fender well headers.....Oh yeah!
You read my mind. That's the only way i'd wanna own one. I'm picturing it in white with the vintage blue tint in all of the side windows. A Crower injected BBC wouldn't be bad stickin' through the hood either. But at those prices, unless Bill Gates fancys one, we'll never see it.
The Superior Wagon is a dead ringer for the true Waldorf in proportion. This is not one based on the larger Nomad bodies. You have to see it in person. The glass had to be custom made to fit the smaller proportions. My company helped to develop more than 60 pieces of custom trim for the project. Brad and Donna have really worked hard to create as close to the original as is feasible. Original concept elevations were used in the build (awesome drawings!) Yes the modern gear may turn some away, but I really hope someone will make one to look like an original (see my rearview rending on the Superior '54 website.
DITTO- this is one of my FAVORITE designs- would love to see it in 1:1 (would also love to see it with a '56 nose, tail, and trim)!
I did some looking at some old pics, and you are right...I think it is those modern wheels and stance that made it look wrong to me. I would love to see somebody do this thing with the 54 chev wagon frame, and all done up like it was at the motorama.
I saw this 1957 Corvette Nomad in a private collection a couple of weeks ago on New Orleans, LA. I believe it was purchased from the Kruse auctions for $300K+
Im not knock em but you'd think for 125k they would have a hell of a lot better car to demonstrate what they can do. I understand they are only making 25 of them?? They better be something special to look at..
nice looking, ridiculous price. there are a hell of a lot of more unique cars out there and cars that could be built for a 125 grand.
