Here's mine. Currantly the body is off the frame undergoing some metal repair. I've got a 66 389 I built side mounts for, th400, 3:73 posi and also converted over to a ball joint suspension with 58 parts.

How hard was it to fabricate the side mounts? I thought about doing the ball joint suspension as well. It didn't seem too difficult. There is a kit for disc brakes on ebay as well that a couple pontiac people on a different forum were trying out. Scarbird is the name on ebay. Scarebird or scarbird.

Nice 56. Did it have a lot of rot to begin with?

I have the Scarebird kit along with the spindles I have. The side mounts aren't too hard to build 2x2 1/4" thick tubing cut at a 45 on the engine end than welded another 1/4 plate to bolt up some factory frame mounts. Probably alot of differant ways it could have been done. I already had this engine is why I did it. Otherwise it's alot easier to stay with the 55-60 setup because of the front mount and trans bolt pattern. Up to 59 has reverse cooling like your 287, but 60 will still work. 59 blocks are very stout blocks, there is even a stroker kit to go to a 453. Hamb member applecrate has a Pontiac dragster going mid 6's in the 1/4 mile with one.

There is alot of Pontiac tech on here worth searching for also.

  8. Do a search, I just posted earlier on another link all my pics from flickr acount, tons of 55/56 Pontiacs...

I have a 57 Starchief, am in the middle of a body off total rebuild. Roller is done: Rebuilt factory 347, with the factory hydro, front discs from Master Power brakes, lowered 3 inches front and back.

Did a bunch of rust repair on the body, floor pans, trunk area, right rocker, roof swap, etc... I know where these things rust! Also had it completely sandblasted.

Here's a couple of shots of it in progress, you can also search for my build thread which will be updated soon-57 Pontiac Winter Project- for the whole story. There's also a lot of pictures in my profile. Be in touch if you have any questions!

  10. Betcha I'm the only one who posts that has one of these. And, yes, it is a Pontiac, a 56. One of 1383 built. Gotta love Canada.

  11. I have a 57' Laurentian 2 dr hardtop, and just sold a 57' Laurentian 4 dr hardtop. I want a 57' Sedan delivery one day but they only made 683 of them here in canada!

  12. I've had 11, 55-57 Pontiacs...cant' seem to get 'em out of my system.
My favorite was my 2nd one...a 57 chieftain hardtop with 347, 2 barrel and a 3 speed stick.
I changed it to a '59 Pontiac 389, muncie 4 speed with 3.63 gears......surprised several GTO drivers and lots of 55-57 chevy guys.
    Here's a couple photos

    here's my 55.
original 287 that i put twin rochester2 g's on with a vintage speed adapter. original 4 speed hydro, original rearend, manual brakes & steering. Dual 2.5" straightpipes with no mufflers and flame throwers.

the red paint is original from what i can tell, but the white was re-done sometime before i got the car 15 years ago or so.
it had the original interior in it and it was shot. I picked up an almoist perfect set of original 57 chevy seat covers and door panels for free that i put in it about a month ago. the original interior was gray cloth wirh red vinyl, and now it's red vinyl with black cloth. (the interior is still the original in these pics).
i put 61 chevy tail light lenses int he centers of the original pontiac lenses. the only reason i did that was because the centers of the original lenses were busted outand i wanted bullet llenses without going the 59 caddy route.

    the "new" interior.

Wow, quite a collection. I like the look of the 56. I think I've seen pictures of the 55 two tone four door posted somewhere.

I'm not big on scallops or lake pipes on these years. I'd go for ghost flames if anything. But that's my opinion. You are building it for you. I love the color combo though, classic.

I have loved these cars since I saw my first one all rusted out and sitting in the ghetto when I was ten. That car sat there til the day I had the $600 to buy it... then magically it someone else was interested and bought it right before I headed out go get it. :( I've been looking for a 56 ever since. I would love to find a hard top... if anyone knows where I can get one pretty cheap, please let me know!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Xoxo,
