Well after the big saturday at NADS reworking the rear window in his chevy DraglinksCC a.k.a. Mike helped me out with a tow company and got my ride towed to his shop for some finish up work to get her running. As they tow truck pulled in to the shop they ripped a hole in my gas tank. Nothing that cant be fixed, but a set back none the less. What a way to start a sunday. All ended up well though as the 12v alternator bolted up directly to the old generator mounts with no modifications or fabricating neccesary. All 12v conversion work is done except wiring the alternator tonight because i was dumb and didnt label the wires when i toook the of the generator, so i have to bring my '51 shop manual over tonight and get that ****oned up. Got the gas pedal mounted, carb on and plumbed, cable run, started ****on mounted etc etc. All in all this is coming along well it took i think 4 hours and i have been trying to do this at my house without the right tools, and knowledge for 3 weeks. 3 things left and this puppy will be running good, gas tank repair (getting taken care of), intake and exhaust gaskets (dont know how, who, or where but it needs to get done.), and get dual 1.5" straight pipes run out the back. I am trying to be patient because its all coming together nicely. Thanks a ton Mike for all the help, tools, and know how. Support the Draglinks C.C. Visit our site now.
I feel for you. It gets exciting when you finally see progress. A light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak. A vision of hope...yadda, yadda, yadda...Too bad I have to call in sick to work to get anything done on mine! Got any pics? Love to see 'em!
I got some new eyes to look at mine this weekend, he gave some encouraging words, sometimes that's all it takes.
The big issue was not having the tools, literally NONE. Knowledge comes in time I know that but when someone is there and can point you to the tools and how to use them doing whatever it is I would be doing. Good stuff, got her running tonight just gotta figure out the gas tank situation, and adjust the idle and what not on my carb and she will be running and ready for gaskets and exhaust.
No tool=fool. Just kidding my teenaged friend. I hope she can be on the road soon, best of luck to ya. But work always beats luck IMHO.
Hell the boy has the front seat back in!!! J Dog bring the back seat tonight!!! We even got the alt wired up! and a temp tank mounted. Hell I almost forgot we even ran a electric fuel pump! pics in 10min
One way or another he'll be there!!! I guess Im gonna try and get his turd down to the exhaust shop today!! Jeez what would i be doing if it wasnt for helping others???? Oh yea working on my own ****!
Well, after driving it to the cruise night and then home i have determined a list of faily minor things to be done/adjusted before Daytona. Intake and Exhaust planed and gaskets changed. Dual 1.5" straight pipes. Fuel Pressure Regulator. Gas tank back in and skid plated. Figure out why she is running so hot. Fix throttle cable properly. Brake lights ? Not bad a little here and there and she should be running good.
switchbladeteeth, you can get intake/exhaust gaskets from bobsautomobilia.com thats where i got most of my parts when i was running the straight 8 in my 51 buick
