Just picked up a very nice 55 Buick Special two door sedan. I am trying to shake it down and get most features operating as they should. No brake lights! I looked high and low and can't seem to find the switch that sends power to the brake lights when the pedal is depressed. I expected to find it on or near the master cylinder, but I see nothing. Help me out.

Until then, hand signals shall suffice!

thanks in advance for your knowledge

I believe they use an inline pressure switch. So look for it some where in the brake line system.

  3. this may not be a big help. looking on Napaonline i see that it is a hydraulic switch , so it has to be somewhere inline inbetween the master cylinder and the brakes...my guess somewhere on the frame on the drivers side

i'm sure others here will know the correct answer

It's probably like mine was--mounted directly on the master cylinder.

I am not seeing it at the master. Will search more along the frame

it is on the brake line junction on the left front frame rail, a little behind the steering box. Hydraulic switch.

Ahhh, that is for '56. The '55 still has the master under the floorboard-not such a tight fit...still sucks though. Have to lean way over the fender to get to it.
