my 60 dodge needs new rubber... the coker site says 205 75r14 but it has 235 75r14 now. what the heck is the difference... is that the height of the tire wall?? im pretty sure these are the stock rims.... thanks guys for any answers.
The first number is the tread width in millimeters. So, one is 205 millimeters wide, the other is 235. The second number is the aspect ratio where the sidewall is 75 percent as wide as the tread width. So, wider tread also equals a taller tire too.
Here is a good link to calculate the difference in tire sizes. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Remember that 235/75-14 tires are just about extinct these days. The classic tire companies may have them, but from the regular tire companies I think 215/75 is the biggest you can get anymore. a 235/75-14 is about equivalent in size to an old G78-14, or a 8.55-14.
205's will probably throw off your speedo, making it read faster than you are going, probably about 3 to 5 mph. One thing to note was that the tires on the car and if its a Seneca, (father bought one new) they were 7.00 14's. probably right around 26 inch diameter. The aspect ratio back then was about 90, meaning the side was was about 90 percent of the width, the width was at the widest section not the tread width. If it was me I wouldn;t go smaller than 215 75's.
you could buy some NOS goodyear g78/14s, including a matching spare, that way you can properly rotate 'em...
im kinda in a tight spot with money so the enduro's fit the budget...i just cant drop 600 bucks on rubber right now.... my speedo is off anyways so maybe it will put me back right!!!! i
