Hey all, I am working on ditching my Alternator and replacing it with a rebuilt 12v Generator. I will be hanging the generator off the left hand head (Flathead) via an offset bracket - dual carbs are following soon! I will be using 10 and 14 Gage cloth covered wire to connect the generator to the Regulator. Can anyone tell me what is the best "period correct" connectors for this cloth wire? Suggest a source for them? Any suggestions/photos of the best route for the wiring would also be appreciated. Finally if anyone knows the Ford designated colors for the A-F-B wires that would be cool too. Cheers Adam

hey Adam, I just use the normal **** plastic connectors, the blue/yellow/red ones.. slide the plastic bit off, slide a one inch length of shrinkwrap over them, crimp, solder, then push the shrinkwrap back against the terminal and shrink. looks sweet, and much easier to find than vintage thingos..
AMP's 'Faston' range is the nearest thing I have found to old OEM on most things, RS list them in thier cat, so they are available world wide. If there is a local place to you that sells industrial wiring products chances are they will stock bags of them.
A shortcut/grand unification answer to all the questions: Look into the 1941 Ford wiring section (I'll check that to see if I remembered year right) for generator/coil wire harness. This is maybe the only stock Ford one that isn't integrated with a bunch of other stuff...it is the 3 gen wires, ignition primary, maybe pigtails for temp and oil. Cheap, too. it comes in 6 and 8 cylinder versions with slight differences. Got mine from C&G Ford. Sacramento sells bulk wire with cloth and Ford color codes.
Could not find any good pics online. Orange bible shows the one I am talking about as '41...generator to reg plus ignition lead. '42 one might be even better...it has leads for temp bulbs and oil pressure and the haarness for solenoid, so add in the other primary lead and minor extension wires fro sensors and you have complete engine harness in original format. Lead is provided to go from regulator indoors to your circuit breaker even. Later harnesses are all integrated with too many other circuits to be easily adapted. Service bulletins wiring harnesses give main and tracer colors for all the circuits.
As usual, Thanks for the replys. I found the vanpeltsales site and located the 1942 diagram. I have ordered colors matching the 1942 system.
