I have decided to put a big block in my 57 Chevy. I just turned 50 today and have discovered that I am beginning to suffer from unspeakable acts of juvenile delinquincy.
I boldy told my wife of 23 years of my intentions. She told me that if I get a big block then she should get her wedding ring fixed up.(loud maniacal laughter) I could lose a limb and still be having a great day.
Anyone have any suggestions of whose kits to use... Headers... pics ? Not that I will listen...LOL.
Tommorrow... the chick in the aquarium arrives. REEEAAARRRR...CATFIGHT !!!

    * NOTE * I have hidden any moveable/sharp/blunt objects that may cause injury or harm to my person.

I have also decided to put my 427 in my 55 chevy. I am 54. Why did it take so long for you to have these juvenile tendencies? :p

For a BBC- the best quality & fit are Earle Williams headers. Use his weld in mounts to move the motor forward & slightly to passenger side & mount radiator in 6 cyl position. Headers will tuck up between the frame rails so you don't rip the flanges at every driveway. You will need to loose the tranny mounts welded to the frame & add a rear crossmember.

Did my own install on my BBC '57. Looked at the classic chevy international kit, didn't like it because it moves the engine forward for firewall clearance. That heavier engine should be back as far as possible IMO.I modified a chevelle trans crossmember, the mount for the tailshaft is still available, and used chevelle side engine mounts. Welded up a set of frame mounts and (cringe now) beat the crap out of the firewall. Not a butcher job, that firewall is strong! lots of banging to make a little progress, a ball peen hammerand a couple hours gave the reliefs I needed and my body man will fine tune with filler. Speedway fenderwell headers, hit the left tire with A arms, gave me a good reason to cut the frame and go with a straight axle.

My 427 is going in my '32 5w. I've been planning it since I was 35. Going to be 65 in September. About a hundred other projects between then and now just for practice. Living proof that you have to grow older but not necessarily grow up.

I made my own tool for firewall adjustments on these swaps a long time ago. A nice round trailer hitch ball on a piece of pipe or square tube works great.

I heard the Patriot headers work well for the fenderwell style. I found a recipe to put the front axle assembly from the 57 truck instead of going with a new front subframe. Apperently alot of the swap stuff comes from Speedway. Thanks for info and please keep the ideas coming.
