Yesterday i had to take a six hour trip up into the piney woods of east Texas to walk an upcoming project.Has we were driving up the old farm roads i noticed a **** load of old metal and pole barns and i got to thinking how often i log on here and while reading down the threads how often i see claims of barn finds being listed, hell for that matter just about any other publictaion dealing with old cars it is right there also. Can it really be true that there are this many old cars laying around in barns.I am not speaking of the wharehouse size where there are 40 or 50 laying around or is there a lot of blow by with this subject..........A hot rod mind is a terrible thing to waste!!!
My current 52 Pontiac hardtop, 33 Ford Truck and a previous 52 2dr post were all barn or ranch finds. I'm chasing down info on a 36 ford 2 door for another HAMBer that is/was sitting on a local ranch. They are still out there, but BJ has put some out of reach and last years s**** prices sent others to the crusher. s.
I just posted this on another simular thread. <HR style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #e5e5e5; COLOR: #e5e5e5" SIZE=1> <!-- / icon and ***le --><!-- message --> About 5 or 6 years ago my nephew found a Model A coup that had been sitting in the garage of a rental house in Long Beach for at least 20 years. He found out who owned it and made a deal. Actually his dad bought it. So I hooked up my trailer and drove down to Long beach and we dug the car out, loaded it up and I hauled it to Riverbank, Ca. Where his dad promptly stuck it in the barn where it has sat untouched to this day. His dad is 70 years old, diabetic, weighs 350 at least. A barn find of the future <!-- / message -->
there are thousands & thousands of cars/trucks still stashed in barns. i know of several. when im out in the country & i look across the land at old farms as far as the eye can see i know there are nice pieces of vintage tin burried in those old barns. ------- gooooood tin is still out there!
Just last night I was drivin home thru LA and I was thinkin the same thing. How many of these old houses have old cars, bikes and other cool **** stashed in em?????????????? We'd probly be suprised.
I drove to Destin from Atlanta last week and going through Highway 331, or something like that, doing 70 I must have p***ed 15 to 20 cars that were in good enough shape to restore. With that beign said what else is out there on the side s and of those that I seen myabe some were rare years. I know several were in better shape that Ive seen folks on here do miracles on. I bet there is alot more out there than people think. If I had the skills and money I would be looking, course Im sure Im not the only one that has that same dream. Actually my truck was found in a ba*****t covered in dust and spare parts and **** and was on a waiting list to be sent to Mexico.
Actually fellows there's probably more old tin in the city than in the countryside, and in better shape. Next time you go somewhere leave earlier and travel side streets and alleys, you'll be surprised at what you see. This is words of advice from a 30 plus year telephne installer. Good luck, Mike.
I read an artical awhile back that there is alot of tin left in garages ect in seedy areas in large cities. Problem is you have to have a contact to get it out alive if you know what I mean. Sad but true
my brother works for a company that checks the power/phone lines for trees that may knock out the power if they were to fall. he's all over the place in the sierra foothills and has seen all sorts of old cars way out in the boonies. problem is one of his coworkers got fired when a deal for a car went sour and the property owner complained. he sends pics once in a while, lots of old junk... good junk, but mostly parts cars or just parts. no real valuable cars like 32-40 fords or 57 chevy convertibles. he's not out in the field so much like when he first started so his tin sightings are fewer these days.
They are out there... My dad's old 30 & 31 A's were both southwest barnfinds that he bought in the early 70's. His 40 Chevy coupe was a gas station bay find(old g***er left at a defunct gas station). His 52 Chevy was literally a barn find, last operated in 57' when the owner p***ed. He bought it in 82' from an estate auction. My 30 Chevy coupe was a barnfind. Car was dismantled in the late 60's-early 70's and hung from the loft of a barn where I drug it out over Easter weekend. There are others around here. If we have them in populated NJ, they are definitely stashed in the sticks...
I know right now where there's a very restorable 57 T-bird sitting in a barn with chicken poop all over it. It's been sitting in the same spot for probably 35 years. Open up the door and the interior is relatively clean and you can't see out the windows through years of dirt and poop. Breaks my heart. I know the family. I don't even ask. It's a sentimental shrine.
