For those who give a ****: This 55 ford is a car I dragged home a few days ago...was all original 6 volt and wouldn't start. I installed a pertronix ignition in my distributor, changed the battery and, coil and regulator to 12 volt and polarized the regulator, followoing the directions on the regulator's cover.....left the 6 volt generator and starter but I swapped in a 12 volt starter solenoid..
Hit the key and the sum***** wouldn't start! Hmmmmmmm smells like rotten gas!
Put a few gallons of fresh gas in the tank, poured some in the holley 2 garrel and it lit off.....ran like a brand new engine! Man, those pertronix kits are the ****!
I drove it around the hood a little and just for grins I pulled the light switch....POP! All the bulbs blew in about 3 seconds...with the engine running and the battery charging. Yes, it's true. The 6 volt generator will charge a 12 volt generator but not very much. I have a brand new 57 ford 12 volt generator to bolt on next...and some 12 volt sealed beams and bulbs!
Life it good.....Oh yeah, the dual exhaust is tight as a tic and the smittys sound great....yeah, the engine needs a valve adjustment but I have a brand new pair of valve cover gaskets [found 'em in the trunk] and Saturday afternoon seems like a good day to attack that problem...plus I have all new wheel cylinders to install. The brakes are "grabby" and need help. New cylinders should be at my house in the next few days..UPS.
All in all this is a great little car!

Ha! Not this car, Trent.....but I think I'll give this paint the exact same treatment I gave the old "goat roper" Pontiac because it's got a lotta "solvent pop". I think a strong dose of 3-m scuff pad will make all the panels uniform with a satin finish.
Now, for some cool wheels, a lowering job, brake repair and possibly a "for sale" sign in it at the HAMB drags. Gotta finance my 34, 5 window build, y'know.

I used to have a dark blue '55 Club Sedan, y-block power, gl*** packs, three-on-the tree, six volt, fun. One of the best sounding cars I've ever owned.

Not many yet...I just dargged it home! It was filthy, sitting next to a cornfield for the last year and a half in a open quanset hut...I gotta lot of cleaning to do before I take too many photos.

  10. Way to go! Please don't bring it to the Drags with a for sale sign on it, I don't have any more room in my driveway:).

Very cool, man.... If you need any more charging system parts, let me know. I have a few 12V generators and regulators around here.

Great, Rocky - now you're forcing my hand to get the Vicky back on the road, but I want to take the 'Bird to downtown Gretna on Sunday. Still looking for a radio?

nice rocky. love those cars. nothing like the rumble of a y-block through some smitty's.

i'd have a hard time parting with it. but it's good you have the focus on the '34.

I like those, Roger......doubt I'll be ready for Salina. I only get a precious few hours a week to work on the ford.

Rocky, You sure come up with some awesome rides. The '55/'56 fords are a favorite of mine. When I lived in Nebraska my best friend's dad headed the eastern half of the Nebraska Highway Patrol. He would take a few of his son's friends for rides in the patrol cars and his personal patrol car was a '56 4bbl V8 overdrive. That car would wind out in second gear overdrive and when you shifted into 3rd it wouldn't go much faster. You know how some of the Nebraska highways are, straight as a string and go on forever. He used to tell us that if he was sitting on a crossroad waiting for speeders and one would go by, if you didn't cartch him by the time you were in second gear overdrive the chances of catching them were slim. Seems a lot of the speeders then would just floor it when they saw the red light hoping that they could outrun the pursuit.

Thanks Nosurf. Well, I knew that movie had cars in it that I dug and I was right - it's crawling with mid 50's Pontiacs!
Rocky, trade that thing for a '55 Chieftain and we'll have us a real mood-piece at MoKan!
Or we can keep the Ford and enjoy it for what it is... Think it'll go nines?

    Wow, that's pretty!!!
Hang onto that receipt for the Pertronix just in case, the one for my '55 Fairlane **** out on me after a few months, they wouldn't take it back without a receipt.
