My Wife and Daughter drove out on the Salt Flats on the way back to LA, and scooped some salt for me to return some day. I know that Honda Civic will need a real good ch***is wash, any recomendations from those that have been there done that?
Planning on going this Aug my first time, will let you know then (Been waiting for about 50 yrs to go)
Get a sprinkler that goes back and forth and let it sit for several hour at a time, move around a bit.. Then repeat this process over several days til you feel comfortable its all gone. Then do it a few more times.. Do not use high pressure.... Lucky
Go to your local marine supply house and get you some SALT AWAY, spray it on per the directions, all over the underside and even on the paint and e****ally in the corners. I have used it on my convert since I put it on the road and have had no salt damage in 83K. BB
37Kid: So what I'm hearing here is that the salt at Bonneville is dry? Can you confirm that please? Because I heard it was all underwater and I'm headed to Speedweek. Thanks, Scotty
From Wes Potter.--------------------------------------------------------------------Just had a call from one of the guys who was on the salt today. The courses will be in about the same locations as last year. The first two miles of the long course and corresponding areas on the short courses are damp for the first two miles. The rest of the courses are fine and will be great once they are dragged. A few more days and the first couple of miles will be good for dragging to make an extremely good course by Speedweek. The forecast is for warmer weather with occasional showers, mostly over the mountains east of the Great Salt Lake and Utah Lake. Sounds like Lands End Lynda will be perched high and dry presiding over the entrance to great courses.. See you on the salt!
It's still under water, quite a bit of water, at least near the end of the road. I've been out there a few times in the past month. I had my engagement photos taken out there and got a little worried for August 8th+. About a month ago when I was out there there was over a foot of water! It's down some now since then, how much I'm not sure.
I'm going to go with the USFRA guys that are dragging the course. I think they would have the best info.
www.scta-bni.org click on What's New, daily updates from people ON the salt and have the experience to know conditions. DW
Dan, thanks for the link to get the report on salt conditions. Both you and Brent can be right. The courses can be fine, but the lake at the end of the road can cause a lot of heartburn. (Are you going to drive your car though a 10 to 12 inch deep salt lake for several hundred feet ?) Complete dis***embly and cleaning could be in order for a lot of cars. First order of desalting is to stop at the casino parking lot and pay the highschoolers to clean your car. They do a great job, but it is not nearly enough.
Okay Bob, All my daughter gives me right now are poopy diapers... I'll trade you even up for some sand at Hershey?

Hey, wait that is the day that Jen & I were married in 02' and had our wedding pix taken on the salt by "Buick59"@ 5:30am. Chris And I may even sneak in a SamIam, **** & GERM shot.<<<Photo's by Mike (aka: Buick59) Oh yea, listen to Lucky & BobK......and knock with a soft fist on the body panels and it will drop TONS of salt out from under the car......oh yea, for the sprinkler thing......make sure you do it at the edge of your driveway......it will kill your gr***. ---------- From the SCTA site. 07/15/09: Salt Report: July 15th 8 pm pacific time. We have just returned from spending three day on the salt flats doing our prep work for SpeedWeek 09. We found the salt dry, hard and smooth. We were able to go to the same areas that we used last year and do our lay out. Yes we have three courses. We will return approximately. one week before the start of SpeedWeek and do more prep work putting on the final touches. Our thanks go to the crew of volunteers that made the trip. Fred Dannenfelzer, Russ Eyres, Bill Lattin, Jim Jensen, Jim Dunn, Larry Volk, Gary Wilkerson and Mike Waters. The weather was great during our visit and if the weather holds we're in for a fantastic event. 07/14/09: Salt Report: Our advance team is currently on the salt locating courses and starting to drag. The salt condition is almost 100% dry and "just right" for dragging. If mother nature continues to cooperate, 3 courses will be available. Stay tuned.
Yesterday. PS-Cheapskate, Thanks for helping Dan out. I am sure he apprecates advice from experianced Salt racers.
Any truth to the rumor that rental cars & trucks have GPS devices to tell if you are running on the salt?
I know the rental places in Salt Lake get pretty upset if you bring a car back with salt on it. They do check closely I'm told.
