I'd vote for keeping the Jeep as a winter driver if it was within the budget.

Repair expense wise almost anything on the jeep will be triple what the same repair on the Wagon would be.

For a daily family hauler I'd want a few safety upgrades on the wagon before I turned her loose with it though. Especially front disk brakes and good seat belts.

But you are the one who has to live with your wife so it had probably be a joint decision between the two of you. My wife doesn't care what she has to drive along as it has an automatic and she can reach the pedals.

I guess it depends if it's the only car your family owns. If she already has her own then she shouldn't have a say in it IMO. :D

<<<< I like wagons too! I'd swap in a freakin' HEARTBEAT! A couple more years and the Jeep will be costing money. The wagon will only be worth more........

Keep the Jeep (or get another if you trade this one) for winter, but get that wagon! I've got a 99 Wrangler, and it's a great vehicle for cold and snowy New England winters.

Drive wagon in summer, Jeep in winter.

Tell me who's crazy in February. LOL~!

Having a vintage DD is cool in the Southwest where there's no snow.

If you can park the wagon and drive a winter beater while the flakes are flying, you'll be all good. If you have to drive the wagon in the winter, I might have to think about it.

Can you still get the wagon AND a winter beater?

Keep the Jeep. If you can fix something onthe wagon then you can fix it on the jeep and the cost of parts are going to be about the same.

"copy of original ***le from 1962" raised a flag for me. Might be a plus as long as there is a current ***le with vin that matches.

I'll probably get ripped by the Jeep fans here, but my mother has a '99 Wrangler so I've driven it quite a bit over the years. I would bet that wagon is better ON PAVED ROADS in the snow that the Wrangler...I had a '73 Bel Air for about 8 years so that's what I'm comparing it to, all in Vermont and New Hampshire...that Jeep was always trying to go sideways in the snow, I always blamed it on the shorter wheel base...not to mention they handle like **** even when it isn't snowing...I drove a 2WD Chevy pickup for a couple of years in all kinds of snow here in CT, and I'd rather drive THAT than a Wrangler in any weather.

Get the wagon, buy a set of winter wheels and GOOD snow tires, put a little weight in the back for the winter, and find someplace to oil undercoat it every September.

You actually need both the jeep and the wagon. Unless you gonna plow snow with the wagon.

You know why that Jeep is so much "safer" than an old wagon? Because it'll fold up like a newspaper with the slightest hit, turning it into insurance salvage (I know from personal experience). That battle wagon'd take a hit from a torpedo and keep on running! Throw in some three point seatbelts, upgrade the brakes, and DRIVE IT!

Your Jeep is going to continue to decrease in value...the wagon is going to continue to increase in value. As long as you have the resources to do some maintenance on the wagon you'd be frickin' crazy not to trade, provided the car is as good as they claim.

    Good luck:D

I am a Ford & Mopar guy so you might or might not like my answer !

I like wagons and always will . I have owned many and daily driver is a wagon but a 1996 . So as I give you my answer , YES ! That would make a great daily driver PLUS when it breaks down YOU CAN FIX IT YOURSELF ! That is a HUGE plus in my book . That will save you tons of money right there .
The only problem I see is w here you live in the winter time ! What are you going to do when you get all the snow and I also live in Pa so I know how good the ****ty road crews are ! If it is the only car you have then I can understand her point ! If she has her own car then what is the problem ?

It's your wife and you will have to live with your choice for a long time . I have been married for 26 years for a reason and I have a 55 Ford , 37 Ply truck and she built me a 2 car garage and filled it with Craftsman tools 2 years ago , so what can I say that will help you . I am a lucky guy and she tells me if I have the money buy it ! I have to live with my stupid decisions right or wrong but I usually can have what I want !

Just do what is right for you and your family , so when are we going to see the pictures of you driving your wagon ! :D

My wife sold her 95 Wrangler within days of buying her "62 Falcon. I had to refurb the brakes, steering, suspension, carb and some electricals. Now she drives it all the time.
I travel a lot on business, so my '05 Silverado sits in the driveway. She likes hers better, unless it is really hot outside. It does get better mileage than my truck.

    More power to ya!

do it , the Jeep is going down every year in value and the wagon is coming up, plus the wagon has a cool factor that Jeep never will!!

get the friggin' car, she'll get over it, might take a little time and some *** kissin', but it would definitley be worth it in the long run!

  29. Two kids, huh? How many air bags in that wagon? How about shoulder belts?

You know, even some of the most dedicated Civil War re-enactors sometimes break down and take antibiotics. ;)
