There is something that is just so neat about a vehicle that was left for dead in the woods getting a second chance at life and draggin' it out yourself. Ya just can't get that kinda thrill buyin' one at a swap meet. Good luck with the project.

  2. You have GOT to re letter it as the Dairy truck...do whatever else to the truck, but letter it the same...

A few more years and there wouldn't have been enough left to hook on to. Good on you for saving it and hopefully giving it an new lease on life. If you do a rebuild be sure to post some progress pictures and reference this thread so there is a continuity to the story.

Thanks for taking us along on the adventure. Some of my favorite car stories are recovery tales.

I once recovered a '35 four door that had a rather large tree grown around the front axle and crossmember.

    Thanks everyone for your comments.
Can you tell I kinda like panels?

As uglymailman mentioned I got pulled over by a kansas cop. He was smiling when he walked up which I've heard is not a good sign but he was cool. Said he thought something was just not right as I went by him doing 65 dragging the hood and sending sparks flying. He helped me put the hood in the back and off we went. Glad that it stayed attached and no one got hurt.

I also need to mention Jim Raysik who owns the Chrysler dealership in town as we were told to go see him and we did before we left. He takes a pic of us and the truck then takes us two blocks away to his private collection.

Then the battery in the camera died...aargh!

How cool is that? He opens up his collection to the public twice a year so I felt very honored. The green panel was just completed and has some very cool artwork on the side. We ran out of time but will have to go back again with fresh batteries. Thank you Jim.

Here's a youtube link with Jim giving a tour of this place.

Why was it only driven for 6 years,at my house a 6 year old vehicle is considered somewhat new and my newest car is 20 years old and it better give me a few more years of service before its parked in the woods.

I wondered the same thing. This was a very nice truck when it was parked but the weather took its toll. I have heard from Roy Moore's daughter and she said Roy died suddenly in 56 and the business was sold shortly thereafter. uglymailman is just down the street from the old dairy location and even he does not know how or why his dad got the truck. His dad repaired a lot of cars over the years and would fix up wrecks to sell.

  17. Nice find, congratulations on digging it out. I like seeing old commercial vehicles with lettering for some business. Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup is lettered as a shop truck for Drake Motor Co., the Ford dealer here from 1928-1956. Seems odd that your truck was only 6 years old when it was parked for the last time. BTW, the taillights on it are the same as '41 Ford car.

  18. Actual phone number for Drake Motor Co. in Rockmart GA on my '38 Ford pickup--13. Until 1961, the phone number for Moore's Pharmacy in Cedartown GA was 4. I can remember when there were no prefixes or area codes, and our whole phone number was 2019.

Since its missing the drivetrain it must of went into a more usabale vehicle,I have noticed some 50s vehicles in a local junkyard that were only about 6 to 7 years old when they were put in there but you would think they would of wanted to get their moneys worth out of them before retiring them.

That has to be a labor of love to go the distance and have to dig it out. I hope one day we will see the end product. Great recovery job.
