Any suggestions on changing a for 9" drum with 5 on 5.5 studs to a disk brake set-up. I am being told no one makes this.

What is the rear going in? For most hot rod applications the big *** factory drums work just fine. Might be why you don't see disk kits for teh big pattern.

If that is really what you want, it definately can be done, just maybe not in easy kit form.

    Good luck, -Abone.

I need to replace pretty much need to replace everything but the backing as far as drums go. I figured for the 2 to 3 hundred bucks to do that i can put disk on them. Also i am using the original 41 drum brakes for the front so i figured more the better. Any ideas?

Which bearing? Small bearing can do the crown vic swap, but 4.5" BC. If you do new housing ends, then you can do the explorer swap, but 4.5" BC again. It's not a huge deal to change bolt pattern on rotors so don't let that scare you away.

I would check the Bronco sites, they're the ones dealing with that the most. But I don't know of any kits. Looks like you might be doing some hot rodding! :)

The Explorer disk swap is common as a kit. The rotors need to be re-drilled for the bigger pattern.

If you want to go cheap, get circle track weld on brackets that mount a GM caliper, and 95-ish Dodge 4x4 front rotors. They are 5 on 5.5, the right thickness, and fit over the flange. Keeping it centered may be an issue though, the center hole is bigger than the Ford pilot, so a spacer needs to be made up.

You can also try 76-93 Ford 4x4 front rotors.

I mounted them to the back of the axle flange, where they are held by the studs. Use the studs for the same application as the rotors, they have extra long splines as they mount to the back of the front hubs.

Could be a pain to replace rotors, as you have to pull the axle and drive out the studs, but how often do yo do that?

Need to grind a bevel to clear the back of the axle flange, and a hole to get and the retainer bolts.

I got mine mounted up, but that's as far as I went with it.
