I'm headed to Rhinebeck in the morning so I thought I'd post a little update from the past weekend. Matt made one firewall, but didn't like it, so he started over. This one is even better! The door is for battery access under the cowl. It fits in with the tab on the bottom then will get a few screws to hold the top flush. No finish work has been done as of these pics, just the raw cutting and rolling. Two of the three dash inserts are mounted as well as the gauge. I don't know what the lights will indicate yet, I just thought they needed to be on the car. The other dash insert will have a rotary switch to match the one on the right. One will be lights, the other operates a top secret function.
The inserts looks nice, but now it looks like you need to curve the bottom of the dash to match the shape of the inserts. Did you ever fix the missing pics in the tech article on acid etching?
The firewall construction is perfect, but I'm a little disappointed to see just a basic X. With all the design talent and metal working skills incorporated so far, I would have thought you guys would have done something other than a plain old X.
Yep, it could have been more elaborate, but we keep asking ourselves what a guy would have done to a car he was going to race. We figured he would have done the minimum, so we did the same.
it probably would have just been a piece of flat sheet, with some speed holes in it . looks good kirk!
Kirk!, Your modified is sure coming along. Looking forward to pix of you doing some donuts out on El Mirage ! Keep up with the updates. 41 Dave
