I saw one in a parking garage of a condo near me with a car cover over it about a month ago. It looked like it has been there for quite a while. What little there was peeking out from underneath the cover looked like it was in real nice shape. I actually taped a note to the car cover. The owner called and spoke to the wife this afternoon (she neglected to tell me until it was too late to call ) Anyways, he lives up north somewhere and owns the condo but doesn't come here very often and has this and a 1953 Buick in a garage somewhere here in town and wants to sell both cars and the condo. From what little info I got he seems like he needs to sell. I don't know anything about the buick or even if the Pontiac is a 4 door or coupe yet but I think I can get them relatively cheap. So, after searching a little bit for pics I think I like them. Anyone have any that have been treated to a little custom touch?
Yeah, I've seen some kick as red ones in red here on the hamb, do a search, I think they could of had a straight 6 or a straight 8. I wouldnt hesitate with an engine like the 8. Some of those ponchos had an awsome finline on the rear quarter....good luck.
Buzz Bomb, is that your poncho? its killer, very Bomba style.... the only thing that could make it better than it is would be if it was lifted on aircraft hydros....sweet ride!
Thanks Bro, I worked my *** off to get it where it is today. And if it was'nt my daily driver I would put some vintage hydros in it to make it perfect, but I need it dependable. By the way Italia is awsome!! and thats where I'm going to get old and die, My mom was born in Napoli. Ciao Buzz Bomb
I think they're very cool! there's one in my hometown out in an old wrecking yard, 4 door but complete. if it was a 2 door i'd have it already!
This one here is another cool one, i have other pics i think from vegas many years ago, its really stunning. Hey Buzz Bomb, ill pm ya.
My first car was a 53 Pontiac, and that was back in 1972! I saw it and fell in love. Had to have it! Straight 8, 3 on the tree, the plane jane no-radio, rubber floor mat model, 2 door. All my friends were driving Muscle cars, but I had to have that Pontiac. Learned to drive with it at 16. But after 3 years my dad gave me his 64 Thunderbird, with 180,000 miles and I started driving that. I tore the motor out of the Pontiac and all apart to re-build it, but things never worked out. I finally parted the car out. But I kept the hood ornament!
There is also the Ilegales cab' which is real kool, then the 2 sedanettes/fastbacks...im not sure theyre 53, at least the black one i think its a 52, kool nonthe less, the primer one i took from HAMB gallery on the Los Boulevardos pic nic couple of months ago. I dont wanna go O/T, but i'd say any pocho from 49 to 59 is well worth gettin. some are very much like their chebbies cousins, but others, like Buzz's example are way better.
X2...there ain't one in any of those pix...the green one in the background of bonez's pic is a Plymouth or Dodge... R-
1953 Pontiacs Cool or Not? what a silly question. the way I see it there are no pre 1965 American cars that are not cool. guys can get one and make it uncool, but in factory form they are all cool.
BUY THEM!!! Doesn't mean you have to keep them, but the pontiac would make a really cool custom. Maybe the buick's sale could help fund the project
Cant beat this statemet! Y'know, i kinda have the same problem w/ my girl when she jumps from a subject to another in a matter of 3 sentences and gets upset when i ask what the hell she talkin about... Anyway,as this thread seems to be longer than i tought it would ever be, i'll have to agree w/ the guy that said that any american car built prior to 1970 is kool, and then "is up to the guy who gets it to make it unkool".Another one hard to beat.
