Hey Scooter, the oil pump is one of those 340 Hi volume pumps. The other one I had worked real well, so I just got another one.

Mark, you said your 340 conversion pump worked well. I've been thinking of using one too, except I keep hearing that the pickup does not float near as much as a stock pump. What's your take on this? Apparently the 340 pickup has enough travel to keep from starving, unless your Desoto was real tired and you made no hard launches. Is it too late for you to show your pickup travel? Looking real good-I will be waiting for a startup video to check out that cam grind to see if need more lope. Maybe even a roadtrip to hear in person. Thanks, Steven.

Cool man! Just one word of caution though, just make DAMN SURE that the engagement is perfect and the they're perfectly concentric. Been alot of of stories lately (on here included) about people breaking shafts because of mis-alignment. Not sayin' YOU will have this problem, just tossin' the thought your way. Just lookin' out for a brotha'!

Alright, stop screwin' around on the HAMB and finish that Hemi! :D:D

  5. You know, I really don't know jack about Desotos. From what I've learned about Chrysler heads, they are usually either 102 or 105 cc.

Its weird, I had both my stock water pumps rebuilt. Why didn't I do the same with oil pumps.....now you guys got me freaked out.

  7. I wouldnt sweat it Mr Ford, just keep an eye in it when you pre prime/fire it up for the first time.

    Im sure you'll be fine.

If i had my original 330 Desoto pump core, Id rebuild and use it but I dont, so Im just gonna blueprint the SBM pump and make sure all is good before fire up by preoiling and ensuring I get oil at the shafts/rockers.

    Too easy.

Just finished up honing the new guides to size, and valve job. Nice custom 5 angle... should compliment the "little" port job. ;)

Mark, I was not trying to scare you or anything. I've only heard that rumor and I've not inspected the 340 conversion personally, so I was only asking to see the pickup travel before you button it up. My original pump is rebuilt and will be fine, but I do see where the stock has alot of pickup travel. Steven

Huge effort on Chris's part...talented engine machinist.

He has played an integral role in this rebuild.

Thanks for all your hard work!

354 and 392 start at about 105 and I have measured them as large as 112.

Mr.Ford got his engine together and trailered it out to Classic Jaguar.

Chris, Steve and I undertook initial fire-up.
We strapped the little coupe to the C.J. chassis dyno, broke in the cam, set timing, monitored engine temp, and adjusted baseline air/fuel ratios. It was a successful day and Mark was last seen headed east on 290 with a grin from ear to ear!

    Anticipation...
