Just got one that I'm going to make a "ratrod". And I was looking for ideas, don't worry, my parents won't let it be unsafe.

And do a search for the words 'rat rod' and see what you get. You may be shocked.

If you've been paying ANY attention around this place you'd know it is a very poor choice of terminology.

Yah, that's why I put it in quotes. It won't really be a ratrod, but it will have some crazy stuff on it. I just wondered if anyone had ideas of how much I should chop it or how low it should be.

1928-1929 ONE STYLE === 1930-1931 different style, there is no 29-30.

Crazy stuff on it means RAT ROD.

It's your truck, chop it however much you'd like.

Again, it's your truck, make it as low as you want it to be.

But if you are asking for opinions then I'd have to say "don't chop it, don't slam it... give it to me so I can make it into a hot rod".

Alot will disagree .........but model t's and 28-29 a pickups should never be chopped !! The tall top is what makes them look good stop trying to be like everybody else and build something different. To many over chopped and channeled rat styled cars around now.

How about offering up some suggestions on how to build a rod instead of just giving him a bunch of ****. We all had to start somewhere.

**** like this is why most youngsters wind up driving a Honda with a fart can exhaust and a three foot wing instead of getting into hot rods.

Start mild. Find a good Flathead V8, Inline 6 or even the Four banger will do. Get it running good and rolling. Then from there you can go anywhere. Most Hot Rods are a constant work in progress. As you grow so will your car. Have fun and enjoy.

Learn a little bit before you try to make an extended cab, cause before you know it. You're gonna have a cut up truck that you don't know what to do with.

cant ppl just ignore the word rat rod? not start a huge ****ing rant on the guy that says it? maybe he doesn't know how bad word is here, give him a chance and inform him how we feel on the subjuct and maybe help to set him in different direction.

The year is unknown cuz there's actually parts to two cabs, but it has the square back so it's around 29. I was thinking of using some type of cloth that would snap on and off for the top. And I kind of want to make the doors suicide

Always been a fan of Model A's and never really noticed the lack of fenderless pickups. But you are right, they aren't as popular as one would think.

I searched my pictures and came up with these.......................... mostly from the HAMB

P.S. I like the blue one.....

here's a few pics i've added to my collection mostly taken from the hamb.
i'm with the build it mild to start with.
i'm collecting parts to build a 34 p/u,if i'd started building it when i first got the bare cab i'd now have a ratrod that i'd be tearing apart to rebuild.
like you i've looked for pictures and found that as i looked at more and more pics i just really didn't appreciate the ratrod look but came to really like mid 30s-mid 60s builds,in particular late 50s which is the style i will build once i've got a few other projects out of the way.
