i split my bones and used ford tie rod ends which are 11/16-18, when we welded the bungs in the bones, it distorted the threads a little. i have looked high and low with no luck. any ideas???

Speedway sell them. I use a 5/8 Heli -coil tap, some say that's a no-no.

They do sell them, Speedway is as expensive as hell...try looking through online tool shops like Grainger, Travers, MSC and such...or just do a google search...it'll be hard to find the right ones...if you're just cleaning up threads you can pretty much get by with any version, but if you're going to be cutting them from scratch then get yourself a spiral flute tap...

    McMaster Carr sells them. http://www.mcmaster.com/

They also sell a internal thread restorer. I've never used it, but it looks kinda cool.

I just joined while looking for this tool. I was wondering if you have this tap and could I borrow or buy it. I have one hole to tap. I live in SE Michigan also.

  14. Speedway is cheap...the first 11/16-18 taps i bought over 30 years ago cost me over $100 each ....right and left. got them from MSC. still have them , except they are worn out. i have new ones from Speedway
