hahahahahhaa, Mine sits in my shop where I work daily, I get to see her and think about when I can get the glass installed and driveshaft in so she will go on her own.
I do reach in through the windsheild that doesnt exist and turn the key, let her rattle and jump around a bit and shut it off, grinning so hard my face hurts .

I was in the 57 the other day and "driving to New Mexico" No dui inn the back yard so I had 5 more. The wife came out and laughed her ass off. I was wasted in the car on jacks making vrooooompoppopvroooom sounds. 312,glasspacks,waaaaay hung over. It wasnt the 6 in the car that got me there, It was the 6 before the car that did it.

I'm 60 now but back when I was 19 I had a '37 Chevy coupe and had just figured out how to put a 283 with a 3 speed in it. Front engine mounts and change the torque tube for starters. Also ripped off the crap knee-action shocks and put a straight axle under it. I was highly motivated and this was a six week project with quality work.
The night before I took it on the road, I actually sat in it all night and contemplated the build and the effort involved. I just sat there.

It differed from your experience, however, in that I was wearing pants.

So true! I am more stressed sitting on my ass not getting any work done on the car than when I stay busy and feel like I'm accomplishing something.

Dude, you're on the right track!!! Shit, I've fired my ride up at all hours of the morning just because of the same stuff you've talked about!! I've had weird dreams, I've been nervous about changing certain parts, I want to scare the hell out of my "tuner" neighbors...!! All of it man. You are definatley on the "right" side of things.
