  4. I dig the razor blade idea

  5. Thats why years back I bought one of those little engravers and mark most of my tools. Usually use my name or SS#. Even hide an ID mark somewhere it might not easily be seen or ground off. My son kids me about putting my name on "everything" (and paying too much for flat head parts - when late model Chevy stuff is so cheap by comparison). Stuff may still get stolen but at least they may know where it came from and you can easily identify if you do run across the stuff again.
I do like the razor blade idea too! Kinda a first line defense!

Speaking of asshole thiefs, get this one:

This Wendsday at Oxford Plains Speedway a competitor hit the backstrech wall and unfourteantly died from his injuries. While the family was at the hospital someone stole all of his (deceased) tools from his truck that was left at the track. Now that is bullshit

Why is it so hard for people to work a honest days work to earn the money they need to buy the stuff they want

What kind of low down bastard would go and steal from a greiving family. That reminds me exactly of when right after my dad has a stoke, his favoritre car, a 94 accord, i know its off topic. But it was his workhorse he drove it everywhere, somebody stoled it right from our house! Heres the thing, they had to use a trailer or tow truck to do it because the tranny went out and it wouldnt shift without a lotta trying. My dads freinds say that they thought they had an idea of who took it as it turns out it was a guy that wanted to buy the car before my dad got sick... They went over his house and found all kinds of the car parts, hood, dash, radiator...the car was thrashed. I have a serious hate for theives. It crazy to see some of the petty stuff people would do...

Man that sucks.. I really hope you find them.

I've experienced several break in's in my vehicle. The most recently was all the parking meter change taken out of my ashtray. Unfortunately the bastards broke the ash tray so now it just dangles from my dash in my 58 cad.

I leave it unlocked though, simply because if you want in it bad enough you ARE going to get in there. I just don't leave anything at all in my car worth more than a broken window. I JB weld utility knife blades to the top and bottom of my CD players I usually have installed loosely in the glovebox, blood stains on my seats are worth checking the hospitals for people who've recently had to get stitches on their fingers to find the thief.

O/T Someone stole my lawnmower out of my garage a couple weeks ago, I ran to the store to get gas for it... gone with the garage door open for about 15 minuites.

I feel your pain; I lost a set of 65 Falcon Fender Skirts a few years back. Even more brazen was a thief that swiped the rear view mirror from a 1933 Ford stocker. Owner was in the beer line at the local "Show n Shine. The car was unattended for maybe 10 minutes???

There is a 57 four door caddy in a open lot not too far from me with a mint set of 57 caps on it. The car has been sitting in this empty lot for two years. Even though I'm way to old to be skulking around at night stealing hub caps, those have been tempting me for over a year. :0

I bet if you used the razor blade idea the thief and some sharp lawyer could sue you for "excessive application of deterant to protect personal property :)"

James427, Find out who's in charge of the [property and "do em a favor and get the junk outta the lot." I worked that angle and it worked like a charm.

That sucks about the caps. I like the setemup routine. That works too. I did thet when we had a rash in the neighborhood. I got boxes from circuit city and put em out front. The next day I got my tweakers.Day after that they moved. No cops,no holes to fill.

czuch, Nope, I just made that up. Seems to fit a culture where the criminal has so many rights and the good guy gets zip.

I would bet a large sum of money that you know the person that stole them. Your run of the mill car guy doesn't know a 57 Caddy cap from a Dodge Lancer from an Olds Fiesta from 65 Chevelle. Kustom people know the difference and recognize them when they see them. And that group in NJ is very small. Sad to think, but there is prob a good possibility that you will share a cordial beer at a show with the guy who ripped you off.

It isn't so much a matter of living in crappy or dangerous areas.
The fact is that thieves and other scum come to your nice neighborhoods to pillage and destroy what YOU have earned because they have found it unacceptable to get a real job.
