Hey, we went out looking for houses yesterday and one street had the directory map reference of B-17. thought that was pretty cool. (my wife didn't get it)
That pic of the "Bam****omber" makes me a little home sick. That's like one of the planes I've owned over the years. A hoot to fly, even though it did burn about 30 gal of gas and 2 gal of oil an hour. Those Jakes still have the best sound idling IMO, of all the radial engines. Thanks for posting those Seesko. My pleasure. You had a Bobcat? Cool plane. I've ridden in a Beech 18 but not a bamboo bomber They were firing that bad boy up when I took the pictures and taxing out to the runway. Takes me back to the late 50's & Sky King, I was about 4 or 5. I loved that show. I lived in a small farm town 25 miles west of Wichita back then. Every time I'd hear a twin fly over our house I imagined it was Sky King. It probably was a Cessna T-50 or even 210. Good times
HAHA.....man you sound as bad as me !! Being "bad" was never so good ! Great pix, where these from a re-enactment event? Rat
That's funny, that's how I remember the Flathead belt, a B-51, close to a P-51 Thanks for the pics seesko, that's the B17 I rode in last fall! If you want to see more pics (and video), check out my photobucket here: http://s36.photobucket.com/albums/e46/ChevyGirlRox/Yankee Lady B17 ride 2008/
Ah, the good ole days. I'd have to scan a pic or two of the Bam****omber, I don't have one of them handy at the moment. As far as B-18's go, I used to do check rides in those. The one is me driving the B-24 quite a few years ago. View attachment 711892 HellRaiser
I tried to edit the other pic, but couldn't do it, so here's one of the B-17 I also flew "quite a few years ago". The P2V-5 was taken during our yearly paractice drop before the beginning of the fire season. This was during my Fire Fighting days. View attachment 711903 View attachment 711904 HellRaiser
It was AirExpo 2009. Just a get together. A little bit of everything. There was a group doing the Nazi camp thing. Pretty cool and realistic. They had a portable camp kitchen they were using. They have a lot of the old pilots from WW2 and up. Not as many planes as usual. Must be a sign of the times.
Cool stuff...I was up at ANE in Blaine yesterday painting stripes on a prototype two seat homebuilt. They too were having an airshow with B-17 231909 hopping rides. Stepped outside to talk to the guy in the next hangar just as a P-51 buzzed the runway on the knife edge. Would've given anything to have a camera at that moment. Incredible sight!
2 B-17s in town at the same time. That's pretty cool. I think I heard the P-51 fly over the house(Plymouth) around 4:00. It's such a distictive sound. Kind of ragged and growly.
