I have a diease, an impulse, an affliction, I don't fuckin know...

Have 4 current project cars that are all good stuff and I just put a deposit on another, even better stuff. I'm sorry, make that 5. Now that's not it. I see something and I'm as attracted to it as a fine woman (well maybe not quite but...). With all of this going on in my daily life I take on another project for someone else to get to closure of #5. Ok that's easy too but a couple days ago I'm driving home and spot a 49-52 Chevy 2dr sedan with the short roof (buisness coupe?) and I instantly jamb on the brakes. I came to my senses before I threw it into reverse to check it out. Another project car is the very last thing I need but holy shit did it look good from the road. I have a real hard time not wanting to scoop all of this shit up. If I had more $$$$$ I'd have a lifetime supply of project cars. Damn near got that now. Something about an untouched project car, like a clean sheet of paper maybe...

SInce some will wanna know even though I've posted em before:

    Packards-41 160 buis cpe

    47 Custom Super Clipper

    29 Custom Dietrich Roadster

34 Eight 1101 Rumble Seat Cpe

    Chevys- 61 Belair HT (bubbletop)

    54 3100 pickup

What the fuck is wrong with me:eek:??:D

    Anyone else this far gone?

    Yep. It sucks.
    1946 CJ2A
    1965 Honda CL72
    1959 AJS Model 31
Model A frame project of unknown destination
    1959 Austin Healey Sprite
Just sold a 1970 VW bug

I'm trying to make myself get rid the Honda, Sprite and maybe the Jeep. I have no room to even work anymore. If anyone has a Model A body they'd be interested in trading for the incomplete Sprite project PM me for details.

AS you get older you'll find the gathering up projects doesn't accomplish much except slow down the project in progress and reduce the money available to do it.
BUT, if you have the space AND the money to gather up stuff selling someoff periodically CAN keep the current project going and pay for it too.
The secret is finding the right mix of time and money to get a project finished without it becoming an eternity project at the head of a long line of projects that will never be started let alone finished.

I'm afraid my friend you have HOT ROD FEVER!!! And there is no cure.

  8. I have over 1200 scale models in my basement. Mostly boxed or on shelves. I haven't finished one in years.
I don't buy as many as I used to but still do once in a while.
I am busy with kids, domestic issues, house/yard stuff. I still have time to work on my rod, go to show and cruises.
    I think it's a obesseive compulsive thing.

  15. I've kinda got mine under control. When I was at my worst, I had (all at the same time) a '32 5 Window, a '32 Sedan, 2 '55 Chevy Belair 2 dr. sedans, a '64 Chevy Impala SS and a '50 Ford F100. And none of 'em runnin'.

What Pasadenahotrod said is very true, "AS you get older you'll find the gathering up projects doesn't accomplish much except slow down the project in progress and reduce the money available to do it."

It can be cured ... :)

About 20 years ago, I had way too many projects and parts. I had a guy come over wanting to look at some Chevy race engine stuff I had ... and wanting to buy some of it. He had his Dad with him. His Dad looked around and said to me Which one of these projects means the most to you ? I had a 56 Ford Big Window F-100, a 49 Mercury coupe, a 55 Chevy ... my 1932 Ford roadster ( in pieces ).. 4 or 5 O/T hamb vehicle projects and a bunch of engines, transmissions and other assorted stuff. I said ... the 32 Ford roadster then he said You need to sell all this other stuff and just work on the roadster I thought to myself ... Yes right ... sure thing  He then asked How old are you ? I said 41 ... He reached down into his pocket and pulled out a small tape measure. He pulled it out to 72 inches. He said this is the average life span of a man ... 72 years. After placing his fingers at the 41 inch mark ... he said You have already used up way over half of it. Do you think you will live long enough to finish all this stuff? I said sure ... :D and his son and I went back to wheeling and dealing. When the son and his father left ... I thought what a crazy old man. BUT ... as a few days and weeks went by, I kept thinking about what the older man had said. He was getting smarter every time I thought about what he said. So, over the next 6/8 months period ... I sold almost every off not related to the 32 Ford project. I then had a pocketful of ca$h. Anything and everything I needed for the 32 project ... was easily within my finacial reach ... for the first time in a LONG time. Within a year ... I had the 32 Roadster back together, new paint, new upholstery and and new running gear.

All because I sold a bunch of stuff and settled in on just one project as a time ... It can be done ... ;)

There's nothing wrong with us. We need bigger garages It's all worth the investment .These parts are alway's worth something. My wife collects movies Let's say they cost on the average 20.00 Resale your lucky if you get a dollar. To her car stuff is junk and to me her movies are junk . That's the way it is Since there is no correct answer I still buy what I can afford at the moment.

  20. Our sickness has several symptoms:
    1. '36 Ford tudor - stock flathead, used it as a daily driver some years back, now it mostly just sits there. Gone on to other projects.
    2. Trying to finish our '32 roadster - a three-four year project. Hope to have it on the road this summer (YIKES!). Traditional look, no fenders, flathead, T-5 tranny, big & little wide whites, etc. This one takes all the time and $$ we can muster!
    3. '62 Nova 2 door hard top belonging to my son. We have a "back half" unit, almost ready to weld in. Deciding what wheel/tire combo and then narrow the Ford 9" rear that came with it. And then tub the thing.
    4. Built a '37 Harley, Model UL (flathead twin), about 8 years ago. Bought it as a chopper with a girder style front end. Rode it a couple years and man was it SQUIRLEY! Accident waiting to happen! Decided it would be better in a more original configuration. Rebuilt it back original style but kept the foot shifter. It worked swell for a vintage cycle - lotsa fun! Last spring, runnin down the highway, it overheated and the rings went out - no compression! Maby a combo of modern gas and pushing it too hard. There it sits in the garage, waiting. Probably run an oil cooler on it next time around.

The Model A, 3 flathead motors in pieces, 3 Jeeps, one Jag E-type, and a Suburban and a car trailer to drag 'em all home. :)

And we just bought a Beachhouse on the coast, built in the 50's. There's a project. At least my girl likes me working on that one. ;)

    I'd say you're doin' fine. :)

ADD. Automobile Decrepit Detectors. Yeah, I have that. I can find any pile of automotive crap in a 5 mile radius. ;)

The first thing I ask myself is: "Where am I going to put it?" If I've got the answer, then the next question is: "Will I work on it...or will it sit for a while?" If, by that time, I've convinced myself it's a good project, I'll ask: "Do I really need it?"...followed immediately by: "Can I afford it?" The last question is usually the deal killer cuz the money used to purchase that project COULD be poured into the one almost ready for the street...

Works everytime...I have one project waiting...I've talked myself out of many more...and I have no regrets of that fact.

LOL! Yep, it happens! Lessee...I have a 67 Morris Minor Tourer, a 61 Sprite Gasser project, and now a HAMB Dragster. Been thinking of combining the Sprite and Hamb Dragster into one project, and being a little different. I guess the Morris Minor can wait a year or so....See, I think if you keep the numbers under about four, there's a way to have your cake and eat it too!
