I drove 3 1/2 hrs to a vintage tin auction yesterday, there were some nice buys & I ended up with a rebuilt '29 Chev front end for $60 and a '26 Chev fitted with an Olds 3-port head for $175 '48 Chev Ute. Two above pics '25 Willys PU 1934 Buick sedan $500 1935 Chev Ute. $50

these are the times I wish I didnt live in Melbourne ....did all these sell for this price or thats what he wanted for them?.....better still, I dont think I want to know..........it just rubs it in even more.........Bert
I always thought that ute's were rare even in Austrailia. If there are that many in just ONE junkyard there must have been thousands of them. You learn something every day. Frank

Are you sure those cars didn't get imported from New York? They sure look like some of the roaches that we drag out of the muck here in the rust center of the universe. However, I do like some of those utes. Wish we had them here.
Everything sold bar '34 Studebaker front sheet metal. Prices ranged from $5 to $600. The buy of the auction was the 1940 Pullman sedan for $300 Utes are as common as any other vintage car. Ford & Chevs are getting a bit harder to find. Basically every car maker that sold cars in Australia have built a ute version, some rarer than others. The rust could be caused by a few things 1) It spent most of its life near the beach. 2) Dirt roads were the norm back then and it gets everywhere as the dust is very fine, the dust builds up over time and it holds moisture so it rotts from the inside out. 3) The car/ute has been parked under a tree & the tree sap eats the paint and speeds up the rust.
200 frog skins........or in your case lamb skins? Does look like it was part of a generator or maybe irrigation? That's freakin insane.....I'd of gone broke or died in ute heaven.
$200, the Cad was set up for a generator I think. There was a '28 Chev 4 setup similar to the Cad. Imagine if they had a 1942 Pontiac Roadster Ute (there are 2 known examples). My dad was spewing he didn't take any money, he thought they would all sell for stupid money, they didn't! The owner of the cars pulled the Chev I bought out of the mud, he asked how much I paid for it, I told him $175. He said when he bought it he paid $600!

Jimmy B, what's happening with the bits you brought at the auction? Any progress or ditto to mine...... tucked away in the corner behind the studie waiting its time.....

the roadster looks awesome as for the studie, its a toyota 4 speed auto. i got the kit from Mike Davidson. I brought the ch***is and cowl 12 months ago with the intention of building a pickup... until last night that is. i picked up a tourer body, which will be perfect for the me, the missus and the kids.... more useable. Story thus far is the chev is very rusty and i want soemthing on the road pronto. So i found the studie real cheap and then fitted HT f/e with commodore rack and pionion steering, commodore rear, jag coil overs... i did widen the cowl last september so i could seat 3 people, but will have to put it back to standard now with the tourer body...... i just hope the wheels will line up with the wheel arches The flathead idea came about cause is was wanting a more nostalgic running gear so i figured what the heck. teh flatty will be the only more expensive bit on the rod.... This is it the day we picked it up after stripping all the ch***is this is it a couple weeks ago. and last weekend. I'm very close to being ready for the first inspection. I want to take the ch***is in and get a wheel alignment done just to make sure all is sweet with the setup. I also plan to pick up the tourer body from Brisbane while i'm down that way tomorrow, and i'll need to check it for fitting. Once that's done i will weld it all off and book it in to be inspected.
