Morty mentioned something about the local CARB (or EPA) was set up outside the Pomona grounds with an infrared sniffer, giving street roadsters the dreaded 'emissions enema' this year...
We didn't make it this year, cars all apart, etc.
Anybody see this go down? Was this a 'warning station' or were there citations issued?
    This is alarming.

I didn't see or hear anything about any of this. Seeing as how there were NO requirements in California regarding emissions from vehicles prior to 1965, it is a non-issue.

It's a non-issue right now, today. If they were infact there sniffing the air at the roadster show, you can bet your *** that it will be an issue down the road, or at the very least, they will use any info they sniffed as ammo. And by 'they' I mean the global warming, carbon footprint crowd...the ones in control of our government.

  5. EPA does that at Back to the 50s in St Paul. It is simply a station that sniffs the air around it, as in a busy intersection leaving the fairgrounds. It falls under general air quality, not individual cars. But it is still disturbing.

Maybe your government. Kansas and Missouri are hands off. Except for St. Louis. But they deserve it.

They hate our hobby and lifestyle. The expression of freedom frightens the pants off these people. I see enough on these pages about looking in our back yards and sema riding to the rescue I wonder how long we have. its an uphill battle kiddies and we must roll the rock up it.

La Mesa did something similar last year at the weekly cruise night, only with the DMV rather then the CARB folks. That went over so well that many of the car owners blew off future cruise nights and the shop owners pitched a fit because they were losing revenue. A bad situation all the way around. Maybe with the new CA budget these things will not have the funding they once had!

My government is your government. I'm talking about the big picture, not blue or red states. And I don't think it's going to be a problem for me, I'm 53, but I think my kids or grand kids will only have pictures of hot rods or have to go to a museum to see one when they're my age.

    I dunno, I hope not.

I was there too and didn't see anything, doesn't mean it didn't happen. I wasn't walking the perimeter of the fairgrounds, I was in the swapmeet area.

A well tuned hot rod would be a non issue. They are actually fairly clean.

It was happening during the last administration as well. Don't think either side in on your side.

Oh, one more thing. The info has been on Mortys site for almost a month now so it's not the first anyone has heard of it. Just the first maybe that someone brought it up on this site.

Was there as well and didn't see or hear anything. Why doesn't someone ask Morty about this information if that's where it came from?

Comments like that are the reason us St. Louisians give KC no respect. What are you so proud of, your silly Royals? please...

It's also the reason I ,personally, avoid KC completely.

To bad about the air sniffers too. We had them, but I haven't seen one since they axed the state run Gateway Clean Air program a few years ago.

    from the link:

    "LYING IN WAIT
It’s a capital offense - lying in wait to murder somebody.
    Cops can’t ‘profile’ racial minorities.
ICE can’t hang out at Home Depot to look for illegal aliens.
I don’t think cops can stake out a bar to wait for drunken patrons to get in a car and drive.

But California emission checkers can lie in wait, hang out, to profile hot rodders at the LA Roadster show. They are there on Thursday for a long weekend of citing poluters.

Are you gonna wake up? Express outrage?

This one is going to be presented the ACLU; let’s see if they want this one...yeah, right, Baby...one that would defend ‘middle Americans’. Bet me. "

    -----------------
I wonder if he talked to any rodders that had actually been cited? hmmm..

This kind of sniffer program may soon be cut. The State is issuing IOUs instead of checks and raiding county and city budgets for bits of money. It has the highest sales tax in the country, and has reached the point where increasing taxation gives decreasing returns. Over the past 30 years the burden of excess taxation to support social agendas has nearly killed the private industry goose that laid all the golden eggs. Thankfully, the people recently defeated Props 1A, 1B, etc., in effect telling legislators they are now going to live within their means. Many liberal legislators are in shock. The lack of money at all levels will force the inevitable prioritization of code enforcement, which may lead to a marked increase in freedoms for all Californians.

"The problem with so******m is that you eventually run out of other people's money." -Margaret Thatcher

"Just be glad you're not getting all the government you're paying for." -Will Rogers

I sure would like to hear from anyone who saw this going on or better, yet, from someone who was cited or stopped.
There were a ton of us there that weekend and this is the first I've heard of this...

This is ********, everyone knows america was a better place back before everyone worried about all this pollution, safety, and emotional wellbeing ****.

Give me big fins to impale pedestrians with, dangerious hot rods that have no place in civilized society, and tons of pointless violence!

What's with all the paranoia? The majority of the people that are making baseless claims about hot rodding and California don't even live there. Vehicles from 1975 and below are exempt from emissions. Hot rodding is alive in and well in California and it's not going anywhere. Socal has been the mecca for hot rodders (and cars in general) and that's not going to change anytime soon.

Enough with politics and b.s. anti-gov/epa propaganda!
