Who makes the thickest thin whites?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by GreenMonster48, May 8, 2009.

  1. I've pretty much settled on the wheel/tire combo for my '48 pick up. I'm keeping the 15's with the 55=56 Desoto hubcaps (since scoring two more nearly mint ones for $20 recently), and have decided to go with thin whites radials something like 205/75-15 or 215/75-15. I know I stand to get some flack for not going with the bias plys, but ultimately the money I'd save will go into the 42 Coupe. I'm just trying to find out who makes white walls thicker than 1", like maybe 1 1/4 or 1 1/2. Does that exist?

    I have some 215 75 15's with a 1.3 inch whitewall. They're called "Broadway Cl***ics" I think Coker sells the same tire, only it's an "American Cl***ic"

  3. I saw those, but I was thinking something a little cheaper like through Sears or something.

I bought a set of P205/75R15 1-3/4" white Dimension 4 wall tires on a special order from a local Firestone dealer in '04 for $300 with tax, labor, etc. They got them for me the same day. Firestone "Article number" was 7099615. I've put 18k miles on them and they're still in great shape.

There is an asian company that imports under the name "GT Radial". They sell a tire called "Champiro 75", in various 75 series sizes.

I bought a set for my 49 GMC, dirt cheap, $298 for the set, mounted, balanced, tax, out the door.

Good looking tire with about a 1.5 inch whitewall.

Out of curiosity, would you happen to have a picture of these tires mounted? I'm thinking of getting them for my Impala- it says they are "custom cut" whitewalls after the fact on the site, do they still look well made in spite of that? Are the letters and stuff on the sidewall cut off?

I've been going nuts looking for some 1.3 whitewalls, but the last time I was able to get any locally it was the Firestone FR721s that are no longer made I hear.

These are runway enduro 75's, they have 1.3" whitewalls. They cost like $47 each, i've had them on 4 different cars, very good tires.
