I'm sure its been covered, but my search efforts have turned up zilch. can anyone tell me where i can find some old car labor guides? we're getting more and more stuff in that falls in before the cutoff in my guides and i wanna make sure i'm being fair to my customers and myself when quoting stuff out. thanks.
Motor's Flat Rate Manuals - there's a Chilton's equivalent - produced annually for years, with Motors they usually cover about eight years, some of the early ones (1950) may go back to the mid-30s. Swap meets, Hemmings, eBay, cl***ified here, they're not super rare but you might have to dig a little to get a good set together. Hollanders may offer a similar manual as well.
If you are working on collector cars, don't forget to add some time for the extra care required that is not included in the old flat rate manuals.
I have an old Motors Manual at the house, let me check tonight the years it covers and I will get back to you. CB_Chief
one thing that you'll notice on the motors manuals is that they don't generally list it in labor hours, they list it by price so you have to do a little figuring on it based on the rates at the time it was printed.
I have this one in my small collection from 1940, gos back to '34. Pretty sad shape but interesting none the less. edit: Just flipin' pages... found a reciept from John G Rapp Co dated 03/09/48 with what look like enough individual parts to O/haul a carb. Price? $2.24 = 7 cents tax.
In my opinion the guide is not gonna help much. Those guides are for cars that were pretty new at the time. After 30-40-50 years it's gonna take longer. Old cars take what it takes...
