I don't get this, what happens if you buy a car that is not running and needs a ton of work for say 4000 bucks and you spend some time working on it and put say 30000 into it. Do they say you have to go back and pay the difference once they see how it looks today?

Unfortunately, yes. This has been on the books in CA for more than a decade. They treat cars not like the rest of the stuff you own inside your household, but they treat them like your property (real estate) and thus they want to collect a property tax, every year, based on value. It's no different than the $500 plus registration fees that new cars have to pay (when they are worth $30K). This declines over time with depreciation, which is one reason I have always owned older cars that have $75 annual registration fees. But, when you fix an older car up and increas its value, they want to collect a higher registration fee (ahem, TAX) based on its new value.

    BS, but true.

Yeah, a perfect reason NOT to restore or upgrade (or even maintain?) your older vehicles. Makes sense huh?! Just buy new and be good little boys and girls....

OGNC, I wouldn't make it a case of Rep. vs. Dem. for 2 reasons; first, Ryan will pull the plug on heavy political crap and secondarily, whichever party you stand in, you've GOT to know things are not as simple as they outwardly appear. Hidden, or at least, additional agendas ride on the back of EVERY issue we see.

    Vote for Goldwater.

Brew, I bet you have a better education than Ronnie and Arnold put together...unless you were a body builder/drug abuser or WWII draft dodger
They wouldn't be hired for dog catcher in this little villita.

  3. I think what we all need to do is transfer all the cool cars and weather out of Cali and bring them to NY...then we can assist that state in finally falling into the ocean while the politicians are asleep.....problem solved....at least momentarily...

We had a similar sort of problem here a couple of hundred years or so ago, people just wanting to go about their buisness and get on with their pastimes without government buggin` them all the time. They all sold up, bought a boat called the Mayflower and set up home overseas somewhere or other...

With 200 billion spent in Iraq, we will need 12 trillion or so for the other 60 countries that have WMD's.....get ready for ALL your money to go for taxes. [IMG]
