Met a fellow a few miles from here this week when I was at work. We got to talking cars.

He took me in his barn and showed me this....Still has the fibergl*** bumper, 4 speed....and check out that hood!

Sadly, I only was able to get a couple of shots off before my camera quit.

The same fella has quite a collection of full sized Fords. I guess he used to drag race this thing at Arlington and Mission. He says he takes it out every 5 years or so and makes a couple of p***es.

He had a barn full of goodies, including 2 427 side oiler engines on stands.

Not really a score on my part, other than seeing it. :D

The guy's owned this car for a LONG time. It's not for sale, not ever from what I understand.

Great car, always liked '60-64 Fords with a big FE. Here's one of its brothers back in the day.

I work with this guy who had a Mach I Mustang in Highschool, he and his brother outfitted it with a 427 Side oiler...He said nothing would touch him on the street... Pretty rare engine

  17. Not every barn is a dirt floor! Cattle barns alot of the time have concrete floors with gutters formed in. It was alot nicer for the cows to stand on.

Amazing car! I just found a big block Ford but its not that cool! You never know what's around.

I have a question, though. What makes it a Holman Moody Galaxie? Weren't the lightweight cars done by Ford?

If it is a factory light weight '62, it should have:

    aluminum front bumper
    fibergl*** hood
    fibergl*** trucklid
    radio delete
    heater delete
    fibergl*** fenders
    lightweight buckets (Econoline?)

All were built in August 1963, so should have date codes no later than that.

    "Approximately" eleven were built.

They were delivered and sold to:
    **** Brannan,
    Jerry Harvey,
    Phil Bonner (two cars),
    Ed Martin Ford,
    Tasca Ford,
    Gas Ronda,
    Les Ritchey,
    Bob Ford,
    Jim Price, and
    Jerry Alderman.

Good question. I have read that the lightweight '62s were converted at Ford's Experimental Vehicle Garage. However, I am told by the owner of a non-lightweight '62 406 (lowest serial number known to exist), that he ordered/bought new and still has, that all the first group of 406 Galaxies were put together at Holman Moody. He says that he has the records to prove that his car was built at Holman Moody. Maybe those were July built cars, though.

He really ought to take a little better care of that puppy.

  27. The only NW '62 lightweight Ford from the early 60's (Jim Price) is now in Rick Kirk's collection. Most forget the tear drop hood was a late entry in early '64 after the T-Bolt "cloverleaf" style. Galaxie 62/63 fibergl*** hoods were flat. Ford and Holman Moody made lightweight parts available to the general public. BTW how many realize that the 11 '62 lightweights were run with 2x4's on the 406. The 60's were some interesting times for factory race cars and what we as consumers could buy back then to run on the street.

That is a very good point.

Also, the fibergl*** parts on the '62 were of different construction that those on the '63 and '64 Galaxies. The fibergl*** parts on the '62 were VERY thick (and heavy) compared to those.

A customer dropped by this am to show me his 63 galaxy, it had some special code and flagged for a 406 motor, he has a 427 side oiler in it now. He was taking it somewhere to have the engine changed he had a 406 with cross drilled main webs that he just got from phil bennett (?spelling) in PA. That engine was in the back of his truck, never saw/heard of one before.
