Fe 6x2 intake how much is to much

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by nick-the-kiwi, Jul 22, 2009.

1. I have finally found what i'm looking for, an fe engine 6x2 intake manifold, something i've been looking for for a while. I am so happy but so sad because my wife says its to expensive. So how much is to much? Cost to me is american dollars $850, no shipping to New Zealand, because i will be in the states so what do I do? Leave my wife & sell the dog or keep looking? What would you do? I have tried to post pic hope it works.

It's only worth as much as you are willing to pay.
Look at the comparision of sort after multicarb intakes for say chrysler hemi to small block chev. I see less of these available for FE engines than I see 6 x 2 for hemi's. You can work out a rough scale of FE manifold type to price to rarity for e.g single 4, 2x4, 3x2, 6x2, blower manifold etc. Sure you can wait to find another, maybe cheaper but how long have you been searching now to find this one?

Everytime I want to spend some bucks on something my wife feels is too expensive.
I pay for it by selling off some of the parts I have been hoarding and never will use.
Makes it a wash............
I'm not taking cash from paying bills, or other expenses, it comes out of my play slush fund.
Thank God for Craig's list and E-bay!

As for the FE intake, be careful as there are two versions.
on the T-birds the 390 laid back a bit so the manifold was different so the carbs could be level.

I think you'd be money ahead to buy a new 3x2 intake and the kit to rebuild 3 rochesters and put it together, You'd be hard pressed to get all 6 carbs synced up and running correctly!

How much are you wanting to spend? I bought mine for $675 and thought that was a pretty good deal. I would expect to pay $500-$1,000 in any case. I would say $850 is a bit on the high side, but not much if it is in good condition. I would pay $850.

Also, don't forget that you need much more $ to finish it off. Figure maybe $600+ on carbs, $200 on linkage, $100 on fuel block, $150 on air cleaners, maybe another $100 on new studs, nuts, washsers, fuel line, gaskets, etc.

I know I spent over $1,000 after I bought my FE 6x2 intake to finish it off.

The intake is rare, if it's a good intake without issues, you have to decided how bad you want it. They dont make them any more and they haven't made them in a lot of years, but they print money every single day.

I use this principle too. I can always get more money! :) Can't always find that rare part though.

11. I started to type in something about the old "Crower U-Fab" manifolds that you used to see in the early 60's, but then I remembered what a manifold for an FE looks like........

If your wife thinks that is too much she is going to have a cow when she finds out how much MORE it is going to cost by the time you get it installed. When you try to sync those carbs you will begin to think she was right.

price seems about right. That intake is crazy and its hand made were is the tech on that one?

18. True story, I was at a swap meet saw a 4/2 set up for a FE guy wanted $600 for it with rebuilable carbs, I thought it was two much so I walked, I had never seen one before and it was nice, so I went back about 30 minutes later, you guessed it, it was gone, I kicked myself for a long time after that. That is something you will need to think about, notbuyers remorse...

19. I would buy it for sure. It is so true that FE multi-carb intakes are more expensive then any other multi produced engine ever! I still don't get it:rolleyes::eek:
But you can get it, scrounge for carbs, look for deals on rebuild kits, build the linkage yerself ( look at marine supply stores for heims ends) and put together and awesome setup for not too much money. Keeping the wife prolly too. Cuz as a hotrodder your really supposed to scrounge and not pick up the phone and dial 1-800-too-much mail order wannabe hot rod hotline:D thats what gets you in trouble with the wifey!:)
If you don't get it lemme know in a PM where its at!;)

20. He made that few years ago, he was 24 or 25 at the time. Great tig welder. Just bought the aluminum, cut the top of the manifold off, started running legs to the logs...

Notice the distributor comes out at a 90 degree angle?? He cut and machined that to for clearance

How long you been looking?
How old are you?
How long will you look to find a cheaper one? (or even another one at any price...)
The things you will regret when your time is up are not the things you did, but the things you didn't do.... and not the things you bought, but the things you didn't buy.

When's your birthday? :D Put in on the Christmas list or something. $850 seems fair. I'd talk to the wife about how important it is to you and how rare it is and all that. Tell her how it makes you feel.

Or you could just buy it and not tell her.

I have one of those for a different motor - you could NOT buy mine for $850!!!!

Granted 850 is alot, but it's not quite crazy either. Shit a NEW tunnel ram is $350-400 and they are casting more of those everyday.

If you really want it - get it!

I just finished a 6x2 Pontiac x2 manifold with Rochester 2g's. It was pretty easy to set up with todays technology. I used a syncronizer air flow meter designed for a vw to get the idle the same on each side. I used a velocity stack with a bellmouth and a part of a plastic funnel and taped them together to adapt the guage to the carb opening. Once the idle was set, I used a wideband air fuel sensor (innovate) to get the mixture set. Take it for a spin with the air/fuel meter hooked up to get the jetting right for the cruise and full throttle. Each exhaust side has to be checked seperatley because you are tuning two differnt 4 cylinder engines. There is a guy in Mass. that makes a nice rochester 6x2 back bar kit. His name is Peter and his phone number is 978-368-1230.
