I have someone interested in some heads from a Cadillac 390.
What would be the best way to ship these, packaging wise?
Build a crate? These ****ers are heavy and he wants them shipped to Australia!

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Build a crate for sure, thats what Mopar heads come in, 1x1s on the inside 1/4 in plywood for the outside.

I agree, crate them. Further I would use 3/4 ply for the bottom and bolt them down so the cannot move and crash their way out.

build a crate for them then wrap heads in a garbage bag or plastic then fill the voids in crate with spray foam you get at a hardware store

Inside the crate, wrap them in plastic bags. Then fill the crate with that aerosol expanding foam from the hardware store. Nail the lid on and once the foam expands, it will fill the empty space in the crate and those heads won't shift around in there. The heads being wrapped in the plastic bags won't have foam stuck to them.

Dang man, get out of my head. That's eerie !

  7. And when you are done with all that grab them and toss them across the yard cause that's the way they will get treated, if they don't break open they are good to go!

I've always used 3/4 plywood too... I've gotten heads that were literally just wrapped up in cardboard then completely covered with packing tape

Put handles of some sort on 'em (I usually use a piece s**** wood screwed on each side), that'll at least reduce the beating they'll soon be suffering.

I prefer to install junk covers when they're shipped domestically in cardboard. The cover will protect the expensive parts if it bangs around. Which they do. Good luck

Wood box, plenty strong, one head per box. Send it on the Big Dog.

Dude, I feel your pain. I hate wood too, you **** wood up and no amount of bashin' it with a hammer or welding will fix it :D. The last set of heads I shipped I said that'd be the last ones. 'course I say that every time.

One thing about plywood I found while shipping, stickers DON'T stick to it. When I screw the lid on, I screw down a piece of whatever that thin cardboard-type stuff they make big envelopes out of to put the stickers on.

Take your drill. They'll want you to open it... You could send 100 cardboard boxes and they'll never care, take a plywood box in there and they bring in the bomb squad.

I used some cardboard concrete forms (tubes) to ship my poly heads one time. I got a long one from Lowe's, and cut it to the required lengths (two tubes - one head per tube). The heads just fit inside, and I cut plugs from a 2X6 for the ends. I shipped them from Tennessee to Virginia, and the machine shop sent them back to me in the same tubes.

    Food for thought........

Man, You guys are CRAZY with that crateing !!

I sold a 413 Chrysler Block & Heads to a guy in New Zealand, I took them to a Shipper in Van Nuys California & he st****d them to a Pallet with a bunch of other stuff & took them To Long Beach to a container.

When the guy got them has said they were Perfect & no Problems at all !

I ***ume you will need to take it to a shipping company, UPS will be WAYYY TOO MUCH to ship & the Monkeys that work there can destroy a solid block of LEAD !
