I have a C4 behind a 302. I'm going through about a quart of fluid in a week. It drips some while parked, but not a quart's worth. When I make hard left turns, it pours blue smoke from under the car for a few seconds. It will also smoke just a bit after going down the freeway and stopping.

I read here on the forum that a leaking modulator valve will cause fluid to be ****ed in and burned, so I replaced it. Still the same problem. There appears to be a rubber hose (vacuum line sized) that hangs off the driver's side of the case, about in line with the middle. Fluid drips from it some, but not a whole lot. I can only ***ume it's connected to the vent, but I can't tell without dropping the trans. When I go to check the fluid level, on level ground, in idle, it's bubbled up the dipstick. I can't get an accurate reading.

It has a 2000rpm stall convertor, and i'm running 4.11 gears, so the trans is spinning pretty fast. I'm often doing 3200 rpm for several miles at a time. Is it overheating or something? What should I look for?

  2. heres a couple tips:
correct type fluid for the trans?
check that vent hose to make sure its not plugged.
    check the gasket around dipstick.
last but not least-IS the filter fresh? If not change it and clean the pan,it sounded like they do when the filter is plugging, causing the fluid to burp up the dipstick tube and causing it to build up pressure and leak in general.........

I don't think the filter has been changed... I didn't know they would do that. I'll check that out, thanks for the tip!

Pull the vacuum hose off the modulator at the rear of the ******.

IF fluid comes out of the hose or modulator.......... replace the modulator

Done deal. I checked the first one like that, there wasn't any fluid dripping but I changed it anyway. Thanks for the tips guys! I'm gonna take it to a trans shop and get them to change the filter and look the seals over. (first time I ever took a car anywhere but for an alignment) ..If I can find an honest trans shop...

  7. Mojo,
I have a guy in Santa Clarita that is honest, but I would do the filter change yourself. He doesnt run the shop, he's their builder. The owner will try to hose you. He is best used for rebuilds as he gives a good price, but he could help you with diagnostics too.
PM me if you want his info..

Well when it comes to bubbling fliud there is only two things that I found that would cause that.
First. The transmission is over filled.
second. the fliud is to hot.
You have a good trany cooler?
Last one I did, filter came apart and pluged the trans up including the cooler.
Last thing. Is the underside of your car wet with trany fluid?
