Just got back from Billetproof, TX

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by KreaturesCCaustin, Jul 25, 2009.

  1. ChopTop,,,,,the GiuzzleHopper gang had a good time and we aren't even "into" those kinds of cars very much. Were "into" race cars mostly. I hope the people enjoyed our part of the show. We enjoyed putting it on and plan on being back next year if you'll have us.

You and the crew were certainly appreciated. My favorite quote of the day...

    "what's a gizzle?" :)

I finally got the pics I took uploaded. 385 of them. I will get the reliability run stuff up later.
Thanks to everyone who made this a great event. So glad the great state of Texas now has a Billetproof show. They will only get bigger and better. Can't wait til next year.

Man, I can't believe that people are grumbling about a $30-$35 entry fee. If they only knew what it costs to put on a show; Port-a-potty rental, table and chair rental, band payments, paying the sound guy, renting the venue, advertising, flyers, printing car numbers, printing judging sheets, making awards and dash plaques, shirts that you may or may not be able to sell, permits, insurance...yada yada yada.... Thirty bucks is a fucking good deal. If anyone wants to bitch about that, I'll show them the receipts from the shows I did in Kansas. You're talking about thousands of dollars before anyone sends you a dime.

ChopTop, Marcy, it was a great show and a great time. I wish I hadn't said anything derogatory about the rat rods to start this thread. It kind of set the wrong tone. I was just saying how difficult it was to pick one true hot rod for our trophy with so many 'Street Rods' and rats lying around. Like I said before, many of the cars that wouldn't qualify for our trophy were still cars that I loved and that qualified to enter the show.

Can't wait until next year. I'll probably be a vendor next time, selling art and other goodies. How about a swap meet next year? Just a thought.

Oops. . .sorry for my "misquote" on the registration price. . .didn't know that a measly $5 would cause such an uproar

Honestly. . .given that the shows I've been to of late have run anywhere from $15-$50, usually with minimal "freebies" (every so often a t-shirt, or a sticker, or mini-dash plaque) and certainly no "free passenger," I thought it was quite reasonable. . .and the "goodie" bag was much appreciated!!!

Alan, Marcy and everyone who put this show on. . .Thank You!!! :D:D

Having helped to organize events most of my adult life, I know what a thankless job it can be. . .my comments, honestly, were only intended as a positive critique to improve things for next year. And trust me, I'll be back next year. . .Seriously hoping that this will become a Texas tradition. . .

Only perhaps, next time, it can be scheduled later in the year, so we aren't all dropping like narcoleptic flies in the heat ;):D

I've already got several BBQ places from town that want to be at the show next year. Word spreads fast in a small town, funny how that works :D

Like I said, valid criticisms are always welcomed.

there will indeed be more food next year, and I'm meeting with the fairground management on Monday to work out a date for 2010.

We went to the first Washington billetproof last year. It was good, this year was great. Way more vendors, way more food. For those that didn't like those aspects of the Texas show. It will improve next year, it is just the way it works. This year a friday night hangout at a bowling alley was listed as the pre party. We went and it was kind of a flop we felt. Did we still enjoy it, you bet. Next year that aspect will surely improve in its second year. Same with the cruise this year, not a slammin ass cruise that filled the streets but it was kick ass and provided lots of fun for our family. Next year it will only get better as well. Just be glad you have a billetproof to go to there.
As the man says, It is ONLY a car show

Had a great time, an eclectic show for sure, but that's what made it interesting. Someone there said they should include a swap meet next year. Don't know if it would work out, but not a bad idea. Met some good people, and hope to do it again next year. Thanks Chop, it was good to finally meet you. Chop pop would have been proud...

Had a kick ass time, It was hot however the wind blew all day and there must have been 100 oak tree's. Ocie and I got there in a record 5 hours(yeeha). The preparty was rockin (not existing)! haha
Saturday was way cool We got in the gate early and got choice parking for our bro's, watched every one roll in and out. Sat night at the boiling alley was lame but things picked up when we hit the local bar and went out with a bag in the hotel parking lot till 4am.
One thing for sure every body in Giddings will see our marks Ocie and I laid down serious rubber at every stop!

I have been in a truck for 17 hours so all I will say is this choptop and Marcy,GREAT JOB I thought it all went very well and I will be happy to make the drive again next year like I said it was only 17 hours and here is a thought since there was no club support this year why doesn't one step up and offer support for next year?

Just wanted to add thanks to Acrochicken from not stock photography for giving me a place to crash for the weekend that guy is a class act for sure!

We had a great time, thanks. Hope you made alittle money and don't worry about the small stuff. BOB our group " Trophy Whore" had to stay late but the rest of us pulled out early ( i remember when that meant something different). We took a hot ass ride to Baytown to a 90yr b-party / BBq. Sammy and Bob Race Radio in Houston put on this for Bob's Mom, got to tour the race shop and look at cool stuff. After the food and cake everyone said let's go to the Drag Strip so we did, talk about a full Saturday. Sunday it was west thru Houston to Austin gotta love this hot rod stuff. Maybe some of these bitchers should just get out and drive those hot rods if they even have one. I hope you Billitproof guys had fun and it would be great if you posted the winners and a picture of them, number of cars in show, etc. Your beating a dead horse if you think you can please everyone on here, it was great and we'll see you next year. Thanks Bill

i think this show had a great turn out for it's first time. it was hotter than haites, but most of the people that were there were from Texas & know how hot it gets. there were a bunch of cars there that we had not seen & that was cool. the only bad thing about the show was the food vending, but other than that, the park is a great place for the show. tons more room to grow & it will! we had a bunch of bad luck with the cars, but all in all we had a blast! thanks to the Holligans C.C. that stopped at 2 am in cameron, tx to see if we needed anything & other people who did also. cant wait for Billetproof 2010!

IMO - If we had all been sitting around in that beautiful park with 80 degree breezes, and actually could have cruized the town Saturday night, this thread would be glowing even more.

Great to meet you, Marcie, your little town is a fine location for this deal - quick and easy runs from three major cities, really nice "citizens" too. The VFD guys were great. Yeah, there were a few glitches, but BFD, ya bring your fun with you.

I want to recommend the little deli - Reba's. Great pizza and subs. And Los Patrones Mex - as good as I ever ate - and I'm from San Antonio so I can testify. But I'm sorry i missed the Bernies blow out - sounds like my kind of weirdness!

To next year and a "cool" time.

Not so much. I did see the occasional valve cover or shift knob, but nothing over the top. There was one car that had some pretty hideous 1980s aluminum wheels, but not really 'billet'. No Dakota Digital could be seen and no clunky, half-inch thick dash panels.

    Don't like it? Don't go.

Sounds to me like it was a great first Texas event.

If Marcy liked it, I trust 100% that it was good. Like she said, we've been friends for well over a decade and she knows what's up.
