i searched but couldn't find my exact problem. anyway, i have a 51 ford, i had to replace the front brake line. once i did, a friend and myself tried to bleed the line. i opened the rt front valve, my friend pushed the brake down, some air came out and then fluid. i tightened the valve, he let the brake up, and we did the same thing on the other side. as soon as i tightened the valve, the brake comes up, but then is impossible to push back down. we did the whole thing over, and still got the same result. the brake wouln't go down once the valves are shut? is there still air in the lines? should i try to do the rears as well?
    any help would be appreciated
    thanks

Bleed all 4 lines. start from the fartest one from the master cylinder. It should be rear passenger side then move to rear driver side, and bleed, then move to front passenger side repeat the process then last driver side front.
now the process for bleeding the brakes,
    1. fill the master cylinder with fliud.
    2. pump the brakes up and down untill they get frim. about 10 to 15 pumps.
    3. hold down the brake pedal and open the bleeder. air and fluid should come out, the pedel will go down, close the bleeder valve.
4 hold pedel down until bleeder valve is closed
5 repeat until you get clear brake fluid
    6. check master cylinder and top off with fluid
    7. move to next brake and repeat process

    Good luck!

Bungle, bleed your brakes starting with the brake furthest from the reservoir. Rear right, then left, then front rt then left. Good luck.

thanks for the quick responce. i figured that would be my next move. i just thought since i only replaced the front line, i might be able to get away from bleeding the rears. i'll try all of them and see what happens.
    thanks again.

If the pedal is up in it's normal place and you can only move it a bit that sounds like you got all the air out. Move car slowly hit brakes does it stop. I'm asuming you still have the single MC? If you still had air in the lines the pedal would go down at least part way depending on how much air is in the system. Your question and problem ain't to clear to me .LOL

It sounds like you did it right and have a good pedal, maybe you're just not used to it being as firm as it is now with the new brake line? Does the car stop?

if you spin the tire when its jacked up and the wheel stops when you press the brake pedal, sounds like you're doing something right! let us know what happens
