Straight axles are far and fewer between here on Wrong Island, there is no room to keep anything! even people are leaving!
BUT, would the entire beam set from a VW BUG be considered in the spirit of the cl***?

Well I saw a complete VW frontend on a very fast Dragster in the late 50s at Lions drag strip here in California.. Why not.?? You will loose a few inches of wheel base with it.. Go for it. JMHO,,

It will be heavy, but the VWs were definitely around back in the early '50s. First post war models were in '46.

I figured it would be OK, A Local had a pretty neat slant powered T-Bucket with one back in the 70's, its all self contained, suspension and steering box, 4 bolts to intall, 2 borgenson joints and i'll be set..

A few pieces of pipe, a VW front end, rear end and a seat and you're ready to race! My experience is if you work a few hours a day every day they go together pretty fast. Happy building.

I recall one back when that had the arms turned around, pointing forward.
Might've just mounted the whole ***embly that way, I don't know (unfortunately I didn't check it out closely). Anyone know what they had to do to get'em that way? It did look sharp.

Probably just unbolt them and swap side to side. Seems like the biggest problem would be the tie rods and steering.

That engine family was introduced in Europe in 1970 and came to The U.S. in the 1974 Ford Pinto. Lot's of performance parts available.

I am not building to any cl*** in particuliar, but more in the spirirt/look of the HA/GR, I live on an island, am tired of doorslammers and bracket racing, (after 40 years) this is srtickly for the fun factor, E-Town now has 50's nite on the 1/8, no cl***es per say, shlitz and giggles. and THAT is good enough for me. the ch***is will be built NHRA legal to at least 10.90 standards possibly 9.90, just in case i pull one of my BBC's out of mothballs.

YEP YEP, this is a 2.3 from am 81 fairmont, gonna shave the head.060.
get a cam kit from esslinger, homebuild on the header- zoomie style with a 1.5 supertrapp on each, following an offy intake on thief bay. trans-go manual kit in th trans, 4:56 in the ford 8" rear. I figure I'll order pipe next payday, its an overtime check!

Sounds like a fun build. Do a build thread with lots of pictures and keep us posted.

Save yourself some dollars and make some more power. Don't use the Offy intake. Get the bottom half of a fuel injection manifold, and buy the 2 inch spacer that Esslinger or Racer Walsh sells for that application. NOTHING flows like this set up, or makes more torque. We tried several different set ups on our oval track cars, and this was the best performing and cheapest intake by far. If you're interested, I'll show you how to modify the inside of the manifold to work really well. These little Fords respond very well to the basic changes....cam carb exhaust. I always thought drag racing one in a light car would be fun.

Welcome to the dark side. I like my lima bangers have 3. Anything you need to know about this motor go to The Ranger station .com If you want to see some neat stuff go to you tube and look at turbo 2.3 there is a Dyno run of one making over 600hp and rumor has it there is one making 900hp

What he said, about the Ranger Station! Another place is 4M.net...look in the Mini Stock area. Those guys have tried and failed and tried and won, with just about every combination of stuff! You'll learn more than you ever imagined existed on that forum!

The dual port Offy does work well at low to midrange. I knew a guy that had one on a street driven Pinto with a 350cfm Holley two barrel, a Schoenfeld header, and a mild crane cam. The car had a C-4 trans and 4.10 gears....ran mid 15s....! Anyway, if you're gonna run zoomie style exhausts, you'll be looking for mid range to top end horsepower, and those fuelie manifolds will take you from 2000 to 7500 rpm in a very linear fashion. You do have to do some work on them right under the carb, though.
