Proud owner of a 1955 Vic Toria, yep I've masculinized up the name. Nice shape, built in Long Beach, and has been in Ca then Az its whole life. Old owners put it in primer. I'll need it blasted to see what really lurks in there.
Not from the Tucson area, so my knowledge of local shops is nix. It will be an occasional driver...a nice, well done, lines matched up, off frame, done through, driver.
I've visited one shop so far. Very nice work, I was told 15K as a starting price for paint only. Is that common for Arizona?? Friggen High for Illinois and for a factory stock paint color.
The color codes are for a White Black 2 tone, and that suits me fine, so no custom wild paint schemes are wanted. I trust my motor skills completely, so I'm doing all my drive train. Building up the Y-Block to Karol Miller's 56. And though I've done welding and paint prep on many cars, I don't really have the space in my new house to do it right at this time.
Any AZ members out there with any suggestions?

  2. You get what you pay for and doing a frame off is big money. Are you going todo all the teardown? Bill over at Big Sky does really nice work as has done alot of frame off stuff. He is over at ajo and palo verde area by AZ honda.

    Thanks Hot Rod Ron.

I have removed all bumpers, door windows, interior, etc. I'm leaving front and rear glass, I'm a one man operation.
Hell I'd remove all body, as I could do the frame myself with the space I have. But they would have to assemble it and get all lines correct. Some shops want to remove it themselves, so I can address that with the shops when I pay 'em a visit.
And cost, yep $ talks. But some things are based on what someone can get rather than what it can cost. The current car culture has made some of this work more valuable than it really is....kewl sells. But yes, good body work has always been the most expensive part of all my previous builds.

Thanks again for the input, any others?

Talk to Troy at Precision Auto Body on Stone Ave next to the Bum Steer, or Eric's Auto Body on 1st Ave N of Glenn. Is the Vic drivable?

Solidaxle, Meatball, thank's for the info. I'll check them out.

Solidaxle, the 55 will be a rolling chassis. The 292 had decent compression and Vic shifted fine...though I only drove it around the block to load it. I always rebuild engines first thing anyway unless I know the motors history.
The eng. and trans came out of a Merc. has the Mercury valve covers. Don't know why, but the grandpa first owner supposedly did it in the days of long ago.
