I had a good laugh at myself this morning looking through some old pictures of my car. Ran across these and remebered that a few people have asked me how I made my track nose. I've skirted around it quite a few times and never really answered. Maybe I thought keeping it secret made it cooler than it really was...it's just a couple of cut up trash cans. Enjoy. The idea started when I saw a couple of round-top trash cans at the recycler that caught my eye. I sketched this later that day. (probably have five more pics)
Started the nose by sectioning (desectioning?) the tops and clamping them to the body...easy to see the trash cans in this pic.
From there I just filled in the voids with metal. The toughest part was keeping everything in place and the fillers cut to the proper size for a good ****-weld. Take a good look - It looks like **** huh? Here is where a few HAMBers jumped in a gave me a few tips. Like how unlike a grille shell track noses are generally lower than the cowl. A few guys told me it looked bad, looked like a welding helmet, etc....I'm glad they did.
I spent a week or so just clamping it in at differnet angles, heights, etc until it was closer to what I wanted...went through a lot of masking tape that week.
Different angle. I think at this point I had convinced a few people who initially told me to s**** the whole thing. It just needed to be adjusted a little and it looked completely different.
Track noses look like they look. I've seen 'em pointy like an indy car and bulbous like W.C Fields' nose. Your looks just fine to me but what do I know? Simple tech, something anyone can do. That's what I'm sayin'.
I couldn't do it... I tried. I hope Kevin wins tech week. I won't have to give em anything! Kevin, I love you.
I won't bother with a current picture. Most know what it looks like and I think I've exceeded my quota lately. I think it was Germ that called my car La Garbageza - "building dreams from trash." Funny to think that I was reluctant to tell someone how I built this when I have been at the recieving end of soo much good information here. It won't happen again.
I was just thinking the other day about how bad I wanted my REAL HAMB logo... We've never had one. I'm just saying...

[/ QUOTE ] Too late Ryan the Grimloc Special is going on the side of the Pusherman when we get to signing the old beast. I guess I won't copywrite it though. Hey Kevin when are we buildin' those headers anyway? I think I know where we can rob some u bends.
Save your u-bends. Tuck is sending me some pre-fab headers and I've got a rudimentary exhaust set-up until then. A real logo huh? I've got a pretty good collection of clip-art...I'll get right on that.
GRIMLOCK!!!!!......you are a ****ing genius...I love seeing something made fron junk/garbage...nice job all I need to do is find some trash cans! R E D M E A T
Grimlok, I saw some 8N tractor radiators at Hershy and thought of your roadster... they're awfully small... Ed
We all build from garbage, few however think to use the garbage can. That's geniouse, 'er jenous, 'er smart!
To anyone who is thinking of doing this...plan it out better than I did. On an unchanneled car you could have a lot more radiator options. But my car is channeled the height of the rails. That in turn dropped the nose down and cut into the radiator space...a lot. Believe me if there was a stock radiator that would have fit I hope I would have found it. TV is bailing me out of my own mess in a huge way. When I get the radiator I'll post some pics of how it fits the nose and what was done to make it work. If I build a car like this again it will be unchanneled with a bellypan.
[ QUOTE ] Man, I ****ing hate you... [/ QUOTE ] which one of us? Oh all right, I know where there is a '27 lakester I can use.
One of my favorite things in HAMB that PACKS "the ****"(tm) well besides RICKY RACERS wife who only makes it over on tuesdays when RICK is at SWING DANCING lessons in his bowling shoes........ I like following the build of YOUR FIRST HOT ROD, and your TRIBULATIONS of having it completed with certain realitys like a FAMILY, MONEY and TIME RESTRAITS,,,, make the DO***ENTARY all that more PERSONAL..... plus you hold QUALITIES we would CALL P***ION.. A word that MOST MALE MACHO FUNDEMENTALS would say is GAY...... Its neat when you ADMIT something looks like **** no matter how many hours you PUT into it,,, then you change it to look better...... It's real life My *****,,... you are a MAN..... I'm not jacking you off or asking you to buy a support chirt either. just saying that the pictures you send me every once in a while, make my day... XOXOXO germ
Thanks. It's been fun to build - even though it's not done and even though I've sometimes put myself in stupid places to make it happen. If you ever get a close look it's a real ****box - not even half of the level of finish I think I'm truly capable of - I'd like to rebuild over half of the car but at some point I just decided to cut losses and get it on the road. I'll still dress my welds, get rid of the rust as best I can, and there are plenty of other places I'll draw the line with form over function....but I want to drive it too badly. I'm late to pick up my daughter. More later.
Grim...if you would have left the swinging door on it would that have made it a winterfront grill? Clark
This is my new favorite hot rod technical diagram.* *Regrettably, Jeem's axe-wielding chop demons on Kustombuilder's A rendering are now in second place. That A still kicks *** on the Posies version, though.

If you ever actually wear it out then you can rework it, or not. If you can keep it you should (voice of experience). It is smooth as it sets bro. definately a cool piece.
Within the last day I've had a few PM's requesting info on my track nose. Where it came from, how I built it, etc. Figured it was easier to bump some old posts than answer all of the PM's seperately.
