Any of you guys have any insite on building a gasifier car. Ever seen one of the old ones or have one?
I have seen pictures of German cars like that during WW2. Gas was really hard to get at that time there. That's the only ones I ever heard of.
they just built one on the last episode of the discovery channel show "the Colony" Pretty neat. I remember hearing about using wood smoke to run cars, but never believed it.
Kinda sounds like it would look sorta Steampunky/ish... http://steampunkworkshop.com/steampunk-motorbike.shtml
I believe the Europeans used coal instead of wood. The original "natural gas" for cities was "coal gas", methane driven out of coal by heat. What's left is the coke used to make steel. I'll bet it's cheaper and easier to use coal if you can get hold of it.
Thanks Dynaflash, I've watched most of the videos on line to try a figure out where the tech is going with this but havn't watched the colony. Boldventure Steampunky looks cool, gasifiers don't blow your balls off like steam under pressure could though..lol I'm outside of reno Harry so I've never seen coal. I think I can make different flow burn plates that I could change easily, for different size materials (saw dust to 2x2 squares)? Thanks All....Any ideas and comments are appreciated..
do a google search, there is a ton of info on these, history, plans, how it works, etc. I was researching this a few years ago and thought I might give it a try, I practically printed a whole book of info off the internet abought gasifiers, I was interested after a comment my uncle made abought asians using gasifiers in their 3 wheeled thingy's that they used during WW2
I made a version of this for my 4th grade show and tell. I used a chemistry kit. Used a bunsen burner under a beaker of sawdust, went through a water filter, then out the tip. Lit the tip on fire and had a pretty good flame going. Stunk up the whole room. I'm suprised they teacher let it go. I havn't really thought about it much till now.
