got the strait axle in.set the engine in to check placement of shackles, and realized how close the exhaust ports are the steering sector.are the headers in a mustang the same? is the engine offset to the right?would like to get the mounts fabricated, but the placement of the engine worries me!i don't mind building my headers, but buying them would be nice.any pics out there of fe headers in a falcon or mustang? thanks

lots of variables there ! falcons were never equipped with big blocks from the factory , i asume you have shaved the shock towers or completely gotten rid of them ! the last 67 mustang i had with an fe i ordered my headers from ford powertrain and they fit great ! if you don't have shock towers you may be able to get by with sompthing similar !

If you have a strait axle you need fenderwell exit any way. Up and over! LOL

Creits (probably spelled wrong) automotive has headers for an FE in a falcon they also sell tower relocating kits and a bunch of other stuff for falcons and comets.

    Fastphil,

Raced a 68-1/2 CobraJet for a couple of years and had a friend with 64 Thunderbolt.
The 427 in the Thunderbolt was offset, just can't remember how much, but when you looked at from the front of the car you could tell.
I used Hookers for the CobraJet, and it seemed to me that Bill used Jardine's on his Thunderbolt. Both my Hookers and the Jardine's had slip joints, as it was impossible to get
in through the suspension in one piece...............and even in the day........they were pricey!
If you could find tube headers for a Thunderbolt application I'm sure they would fit.
Here are a couple of pictures of 68/69 Cobra Jets with stock exhaust as I don't think I have any of the CobraJet.................hope it helps.

In any event, you would probably be better off building your own.................to bad you aren't closer and I'd give a hand.

The engine bays on Falcons are 1" narrower than 65-66 mustangs, swap headers won't fit without some serious hacking.

They do have some FE headers listed, but they were slow as hell getting back to me on some 351W headers. Hope your luck is better.

I'm with Judd, cutting out the shocktowers opens up a lot of options. Strengthen the frame rails and SERIOUSLY think about some subframe connectors and torqueboxes. There is not a whole lot under these things.

yea the shock towers are gone.the exhaust ports point down right into the frame rails.under chassis looks like the only option to me.believe me i wanted to build a set of fenderwell headers. i guess i can lower the engine where the ports are below the frame rails then turn them up around the rails to exit the fenderwells.yea "coupe",thought it had an offset. thanks guys, i will get more into it this weekend.

You should have enough room to run fenderwells. I had a 60 and a61 that were 390 powered with fenderwells. They have to turn up nearly right out of the flange. My 500in/460 powered 61 has fenderwells -- easier to make than FE, but tight upward bend out of the flange.
