I used TalStrip(Aircraft paint stripper) to strip the front end parts I got for my '63 from Derek,Cadillac Kings C.C.,thanks man).Took two separate coats, but it took it down to bare metal.Put in a plastic bowl, and brushed it on.let it sit for about 20 minutes, used a putty knife or a similar tool, and proceed to gently s****e it off.Rinse,repeat.On my final coat now, then I'll use an emery cloth for final prep, then tomorrow I'll paint it.Warning:This stuff burns like hell when it gets on your skin, even when you're rinsing parts and the water mixed with the stripper hits your skin.Soap and water takes care of that problem though. Also,it eats through latex gloves, even if you double them up(Yup,found this out the hard way too,but i didn't have any other types of gloves). It's also a little messy, but it's much easier than sanding.I recommend it,but only for small parts, not an entire care, unless you like spending a **** load of time on clean up.

lay down a big cheap tarp under your car body, then fold up and throw away when done.
    2 minute clean up :)

Good idea, I knew that there should be a good reason for picking up those blue tarps off the side of the road when they blow off pickups and trailers.

I have used BIX stripper before on my ol 67'camaro convertible, the inner wheel wells, floor pans, and rear end housing,..it worked great, you have to use a well ventilated area though,..it is thick pasty stuff, smooth it on with a putty knife, let it set for 6 hours, go back and wipe it all off and throw everything away as you go. It's a fantastic way to strip paint. Clean up properly before painting.

And make sure you really really clean a leaded area, a friend of mine did his ot 442 and about a decade, the car looked awesome still after much neglect after he sold it and it was bubbling where the lead was.

I used the same stripper to remove 5 coats of paint from my old race car. We used old boxes cut up & placed under the car. Worked well but next time it's off to a media blaster
