I basicly fucked up a cool old piece... :D

But all it would hold was a small paper airfiler, and I think that the engine its going on will need more air than that.

So I made a new base out of a chunk of aluminum, cut the old base off the scoop, and welded them together.

I cut some holes in the back to give it some more air.

Sorry, but I'm not feelin it. I know you probably put a lot of work into it, but it still doesn't look right to me.

Yeah, its an old Accel draw through turbo.

    the engine is a 351W.

I'm getting pretty close to firing it.
Cant wait to see what it will do.

I think it lost the coolness of its old shape too.

But it was the only way I could get that K&N element in there, and I'm not running a engine without a filter out here...

  7. It screams Chapparell or some other roadrace type "in your face" part. Not dainty but made to suck air.

    I love it.

That is a nasty looking motor.

I think it all depends on the context... What's this thing going in?

    Frankly, I really like it.

  13. Only its not made out of a shell or coconut!:p (there is something the tikithemed folks haven't done yet:rolleyes:)

Add a rear rib/fin. Extend the center rib back with a piece of aluminum plate, then round the top over and angle down to the bottom. Then on the sides, little curved vanes like the side fins on Adam Opels rocket car, also tied in to the shape. Not big, not gaudy, just a little to take your eyes away from the uprightness of the present shape.

With the turbo and other custom pieces, will make it look 100% bespoke.

  15. Put a coconut shell over it. Then it'll be tiki/surf cool

  19. You don't see those everyday Chauncie. A 351W powered early Capri with an vintage Accel turbo. It screams the 70's.

    Thanks guys.

I think it will grow on me...

And cutting the holes in it already made a big difference.

That removed some of the chunkyness of the base...

    OK...

Some more work done to it.

I smoothed off the inside a bit ( where the new piece meets the old Scoop part )

And I welded on a bung to accept a fitting that connects a vac hose to the low pressure side of the wastegate.
The drilled hole exits in between the choke horn and the lower ring of the Scoop, so the waste gate gets filtered air now...

    Zagato 664.jpg

    Zagato 668.jpg

I welded up the old hole that held the scoop on the carb, and drilled a new one to line up with the new position.

The new hole is a little over 1/2" dia, so a piece of 1/2" aluminum rod could go through.
Its drilled and tapped 1/4" thread, so it holds the top of the lid on the filter.
    Which holds the Scoop down.
I cut a slot in the aluminum fastener for a screwdriver.

    Zagato 671.jpg

Here are some pics of the Carb linkage.

    Zagato 666.jpg

    Zagato 672.jpg

I made a piece of Aluminum that I welded to the cast piece that ducts the mixture from the under carb adapter to the Turbo.

It has a threaded hole that lines up with the carb mechanism, for the throttle cable.
And another threaded hole that holds a stainless steel rod that I bent, tapped and drilled, to hold the throttle return springs.
