justpicked up a 64 c10 - first chevy (probably tell by my handle) anyway 350/350 combo in it (obviously both transplants) no interference/clearance issues with anything, but just noticed a pretty heavy lean to the motor - it is off center to the firewall, leaning down on drivers side - doesnt appear to have broken motor mounts, brackets look ok - any ideas/suggestions? frame appears straight, etc I suppose I could shim the drivers side, but that seems like im just adding to the afro-engineering-ness of the whole thing.
tru, pic would be good - ill get a shot tonight - was hoping there was something obvious 'chevy' about this that im missing and would ring someones bell
What ever the problem is it shouldnt be a hard thing to fix unless the main frame is rusted out. Just mounts would be a fast fix
I did some work on a 62 a few years ago. Some PO(S) had swapped in a "modern mount" 350 and universal tube crossmember. Had the exact same problem. Those crossmembers just weld to boxing plates that go on the inside of the rail...lots of room for error in lining stuff up. If it has one of these swap kits in it, I'd start checking out that crossmember. Just my .02...
are the mount brackets on these ***ymetrical or the same? any way po coulda put pssgr on drivers side and vs versa
maybe we can go have a beer with the prez and everything will be cool? alright....fair enough - wasnt looking to offend just make a point - in fact the po wasnt even irish! I dont want to add to the 'questionable driveway mechanics' that went on with the previous owner - though shimming the drivers side would probably be easiest, not best, therefore a shortcut Id rather not take. I appreciate the suggestions - Ill look closer tonight and post a pic if it doesnt become obvious
Look at the mounts to see if one is broken, These trucks are pretty fool proof. Rt & Lft mounts are the same & 6 cyl engines take the same rubber mounts & frame mounts. Unless someone really Rigged the Engine in there it should be as easy as replacing the Motor Mounts.
thats the odd thing - nothing really that rigged about any of this truck, certianly seen worse) I was just talkin smack - maybe the driver side mount bracket is just bent and not obvious to the eye - probably right - just replace em thanks
they look different to me - wtf?!? http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p71/blackmopar06/psgrsdmnt.jpg http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p71/blackmopar06/drvrsidemnt.jpg
They definitely look different, get two that match. If it's ****ed over that far something is probably gonna goofy, i.e. ****ed at the trans mount also.
Might be offset to p***. side, but the height should be the same. Saw you had mount pics posted, but I can''t peek til I get home.
I may have what you need. I have a piece of flat steel in the shape of a v with holes through it. The guy I got it from said be thought it was from an old Camaro he parted out and thought it leveled an engine at the factory (part does appear to be a factory piece). It looks like it would fit between the motor mount and the engine block. I have it hanging on my cubicle wall at work. I will get a picture posted up tomorrow after work.
thats what im thinking - though so far no bad shakes or anything - any idea where to source em? maybe lmc or something
I'm thinking one mount is for the earlier frame '60-'62,the '63 and later frames are almost an inch taller in that area
Afro-engineering-ness??? WTF is that? I'd bet everytime you get out of the truck the motor has a tendency to straighten up. Try Jenny Craig and that may help you with your leaning motor.
The P***enger side FRAME braket is the wrong one. Get the correct Bracket & replace both engine mounts with New truck mounts and it looks like you will be Cool.
to do a engine swap in a 60 to 66 chevy or gmc truck it is all bolt in. i put a 350 in a gmc that has a v6 and i got the steel mounts from a v8 truck, and put them in, i think 6 cyl iar differnt. and you need to move one side forward. it looks like you need to move right to left.
Cl***ic industries (online catalog) has just about everything for these trucks or you can always check your local pick a part.
yep, no brainer now - i just didnt know if both sides should be same or different and now thats answered - thanks a bunch guys! update with a good link that shows/explains the differences - again, thanks guys! http://www.persh.org/pickup/perches.htm
