That letter is one of the most awesome things I've ever seen. Man it's cool to see a little guy knowing what's true and right at such a tender age and despite having a disadvantage.

I'd have that letter laminated and put on the wall of my shop. It's so great to know you've had a positive impact on someone so young. Wouldn't it be great if he ended up building a hot rod in spite of his "handicap"?
I hope you follow up and correspond with him.

    You rock Bob.

Need any extra help around the shop? Like after school maybe? Even if it's just sweeping floors, it would tremendously impact this kid's life.

  5. That letter is great Bob. It's the very essence of what this life is about. P***ing on knowledge to those who crave it.

You oughta' build that kid a mini-bike or something cool. I bet it would make him feel just like you do every time you look at that letter.

Bob it was nice meeting you and your fiance' (sorry I forgot her name) That is a very cool letter and I respect you for going farther than a letter and giving him a ride thats great. That will be a moment not only he will treasure for the rest of his life but his family too!!
And will also give his family a new look at our hobby and will maybe take him to a few shows that he will enjoy.

    Thats awesome.

You have to wonder these days, whether or not the kid really has a true learning disability, or the rabid liberal **** ***** teacher is just trying to cut his nuts off.

Put it this way, they hardly EVER prescribe ritalin, etc, to little girls.

WELDING at age 10? Theres nuthin wrong with that kids head, other than he's a genius... and freakin cool. He'll grow up and be another Bob Bleed!

    [/ QUOTE ]
I know its a little OT but....Folks he speaks the truth! Be very careful of a teacher who wants to prescribe.
This "teacher" told my sister that my 9 year old nephew needed (fill in the blank with the latest).
I watch the kid every evening till she leaves work.
    Normal 9 year old,full of life.(till I hand him a broom!)
The *** that I am I go see the "teacher".....yes she says only have 5 in her cl*** this year that needed something....
**** that ****! She wants a room full of zombies.
    Not gonna happen.
Damn I better stop, gettin pissed again. [IMG]
People be careful with the kids...

That *is* really touching. It's really neat that he chose you and not brett farve or jesse james or something...

Will you come to my show and tell?

Awesome letter. I agree with Joe -- it's hard not to tear up when you read that.

The letter brings up an important point -- all of us with cars that are even slightly cool are heroes to a lot of kids. This stuff is pretty normal to all of us, but it's a whole kick*** world of magic to a ten year old.

I think we should do everything we can to encourage kids when they show even a little interest. Might keep them out of all sorts of bad ****.

Such as, for instance, being tricked into thinking a Toyota Celica with a big wing on the trunk is actually cool.

Give kids rides, tell 'em about what your car's about, treat 'em like they're worth your time. They'll never forget it.

Bob, you have been "chosen" to help this kid. You really could make a HUGE difference in this kids life. Make the time to let this young rodder hang out with you. It will give you more pleasure than any car ever will. I have a daughter that has some problems, she is on ritalin, and it was the best thing I ever did for her, wish I would have done it years earlier. It is hard for her to catch up, but she is working hard and I know she will achieve her goals. My best memories was the ol hot rod dude down the street that turned me lose to help him, and I will always remember him....To

    Not to hijack...

Possibly virus, but here's a start:

Download Ad-Aware by lavasoft. Google for it, don't remember the URL off the top of my head. Run it, it'll come up with a list of crud when it's done, right click, choose 'Select All Items', then next, or finish, or whatever. Reboot.

Then go to mozilla.org and download Firefox. Install it, tell it to import settings/bookmarks from Internet Explorer, then say 'Yes' when it asks to be the default browser. Never use Internet Explorer again.

    Good luck!

  18. Bob, that letter is awesome and gotta be pretty touching that the work you do has touched someone that much. Seeing the roadster in CKD really got me fired up about old school rides, and there are quite a few people on here that consider you a rockstar...thats good stuff man. keep building your cool **** and bringing inspiration to lots of young dudes all over.

    ruler

i mean it when i say it.. its evident.. even 10 year old kids think so. write that boy, change his life, make it so when he is old and sitting in his chair with his grandkids gathered round, he can hold out a picture and tell the story of how he got into hot rods.. through his pop and Bob Bleed.
Open that chapter in his life.

    freaking ruler

    Bob you freak me sometimes...

Max Wedge.. didnt i say something to you in the parking lot.. like .. "dude dont start that thing.. its just gonna be trouble" .. was i right ... or was i right?

booze and horsepower dont mix.. be more careful

    The pileup was a blast.

MFS did.. and will .. rock.. there is no doubt in my mind.

It was tough to put on the show, a prime directive was to try and keep it like it was.. with the same feel and spirit... hot rods.. no BS.. just showing off your work. It was bigger than we expected, we were overwhelmed. Luckily we had some quality people helping out and we were able to handle the job. Thanks be to those people.
It was a punk rock show bob... still sort of is..new wave.. thats fine by me.. its the same spirit. We need to re-double our efforts to keep it that way. Straight up hot rods and customs.. same style.. same groove. We will talk in the future.
Some people worked all year to get a car there... to make it for the show.. thats an honor. Having people spend hundreds of hours with a goal to get their car done for the show that you are a part of. Honor.. plain and simple..

If there were awards for coolness and for hard work.. i would be handing them out.

If there were awards for inspiration, i would be giving them to bob.

That letter from the young 'un almost brought tears to my eyes. This is coming after Ryan deleted my post about tatooed idjits in their 20s-30s that can't do ****, but talk endlessly about it. It's cool ryan, it IS tech week afterall.

You, Sir. Bob, inspired this child and that's the biggest accomplishment you could hope for.

One of the most gratifying moments in my life came when I did a Show 'N' Tell at my daughter's elementary school when she was 8 years old, some 6 years ago. I drove my '54 Chevy down there and took some hammers and dollies and showed the kids the rudiments of bodywork.

The little ones were completely attentive and asked all kinds of questions. Even though my car was still in primer spots and rough looking the kids thought it was cool. Some of 'em thought it would look better with big chrome wheels.

Sometimes when I see these drunk ******* rockasillies at the bar or at shows and they start yammering on, I have to shut them out. I'd rather talk to a little boy or girl who's really interested in out hobby rather than these jack***es who approach me because they think I'm some kind of local hero/guru.

Save your energy for real children, not adults who act like children.

It's fun to get drunk, but if that's all you do, you're a loser. Just think if you hadn't chucked away $1000s in tattoos you might have the dough for a car.

    God Bless.

    I can't wait for volume 2.

    Mad props,
That is the most important thing anyone can do is to inspire a child. Far more inportant than how well one can execute a 4 in chop.

I have written Bob many letters, with NO response, don't let him fool you. His overpowering will to create with steel has blinded his skill to write with a pen and paper. Write him back on a peice of steel with plasma cut letters. It would be like a caveman with modern technology. [IMG]

If you build it they will come!

If you go to a show and tell I want to go Bob. You can tell them I am your body guard cause you're famous.

Dang...that letter about made me cry. It's easy as adults, to forget how impressionable little kids are. What an honor, to be chosen as his "most admired" person...very, very cool.

  29. He could be the next Ed Roth and you are his hero. They say Hot Rodding is dying. It's kids like this one that will keep it going.

  30. Damn man, I got choked up reading that letter. That is friggin' cool. Bob rules.

I'm going to write that kid and send him an old magazine... hell, maybe even a car magazine [IMG]

I don't know what kind of "learning disability" he's got, but how many really good mechanics/builders do we all know that could barely s****e through school? I'm damn glad they weren't prescribing all the drugs and **** when I was that kids age.
