Guys, My cars almost done but doesnt look like I will make the trip out to bonneville in the coupe.... Brand new motor has no oil pressure and I have to work this week no time to yank it and diagnose when we were supposed to leave on friday.......whats the deal with flying in and renting a car and getting a hotel. Took the time off work... I want to come check out speedweek. Can anyone give me some Last minute drop in advice for coming out??? I'm willing to buy the ticket if when I get out there I can rent an RV and stay in it? or if you all think I can possibly find a room for my pop and I when we get there..... Thanks in advance. Kenny.

I would start asking around and start making some calls to the casinos in Wendover. I imagine you could rent a RV in Salt Lake but again you would have start calling. You can camp at the bend in the road for free... Good luck

landracing.com has a TON of info about what you're asking. ALso, rental car companies do not like/allow their renters to take their cars to the salt. I guess you could find a real good car was for the return...but....

there are lots of camping areas, not sure about RV rentals. Maybe you can find something in SLC???

Most Salt Lake car & Rv rental places expressly forbid taking rentals on the salt and have huge clean up prices if you do. They will know too because they have built in GPS on them. Most guys rent Ryder trucks {they dont}& stay in them at the bend in the road on the way to the flats where everyone else does {a van would work }. You can go up the road a ways if you actually want to sleep at night too. By Sunday night you can find a room, a lot of peeople have blown up & left. Bring a popup canopy & chairs or buy some in Salt Lake or fry your brain in nuclear reactor type heat. Food is available on the salt & quite good. Wear all white if possable, you can not stand black shoes or shirts. and a white hat plus sun block 30,000. Go to landracing.com or scta-bni.org for a guide as to what you need that I may have missed. Whatever it takes its worth it all, been going for 25 years

There have been several post for people who have rooms paid for that are not going. Those people are trying to get someone to take over the rooms. You should do a search here and on Landspeed.com for openings. later in the week there will be rooms after the Fans leave and it's mostly racers. Or try calling around Wendover. I saw some body who lives there renting his inlaw ba*****t.

Has anyone paid these cleaning fees for a rental car on the salt? I am just wondering if its worth it grabbing like a 40 dollar a day enterprise car and paying it rather than a van? Hotel may not be as hard as I thought a few places have sporatic rooms still open.

I have never paid the fees but usually I take my truck. I have heard about fees of $200 or more from rental companies. I know they make you sign a form that you will not take it off road. In '77 I rented a motor home from a private party in SLC. It came back with plenty of salt but he didn't seem to care much. He had been drinking quite a bit that day. Since then I took my truck.

    LAFF, LAFF, LAFF!!!

One of the coolest things I remember was all the Ryder trucks with some sort of heavy board strapped to the front bumper. Wonder what they needed a board on the front bumper for???

BIRDMAN ... As there were no "takers" I just cancelled the extra room reservation at the Knights Inn, Wendover (give them a call direct). I'm (we) are still staying there at 135.00 per/night and the best I could do was pay for six days, even though we won't stay the whole week. Therefore, something could be worked out for Sunday Night and beyond. Let me know if this would help you out ... grandaddy-O 224-234-8896
