    To All

You need to go to Bonneville at LEAST once in your life. If only to spectate but its MUCH BETTER if you get to race. I went in 2003. I got to watch Carl Heap make his final p***es in the Pheonix. That was a truly awesome site to watch. Plus I came away with a record to boot . Life is good.:D

  2. Heck Danny, I had a bike knocked out from under me by an Alfa Romeo back in '94. Broad sided on Monday, bought a new Bike Friday. Some people never learn.:D
I think this last go around almost got my attention.
I took apart my Silver State Cl***ic Ride Five years ago to appease the family, but the bug just won't go away.
Now my brother has the green light from his other half to go to Bonneville.
Apparently the wide open space of the salt appears safe.
I'm not going to argue. I get to spend some quality time with my brother.

How many of you guys camp out on the salt and who stays in Wendover?
The two car trailer has living quarters with a head and a kitchen, so camping out is doable, but a hot shower and a pool is kind of tempting as well.

Anyways, thanks to you all for your input. I am really looking forward to this.

  3. Indeed it is.
I just picked up the rest of the parts to put the new fuel tank in it today.
    273, solid lifter, 2bbl with a console A/T. Still has the Ident-a-plate.
I rebuilt the front end twenty years ago before it got parked, so that is all set.

Hey Bill, we could use you out on the salt. You never know when another set of hands will come in handy.

If you are racing out there all day in the heat. Its REALLY NICE to go back to a cold room but if you can only afford to camp out then thats what you have to do. If you can get a couple of people to split costs its not so bad.

I've been at this racing lark for just on 50 years and my knees are shot to hell. The Norton has 14:1 compression and 35 deg. fixed advance. I can no longer kick start it so I made this up. Knees schmees this is the business. Take the bike. You'll have a lot more fun for less bucks. I can guarantee you'll leave the salt with a grin wider that Rosie O'Donnell's ***.

Firingorder1 is right. Bikes are a blast on the salt . I got my record on a bike. There is nothing like having a bike wide open and the *** end sliding all over place looking for traction and a big old smile on your face.

I've always wondered why people want to strap themselves into a car and isolate themselves from the experience.

P.S. Double Caddy. Congrats on you record. Not easy to get.

The 130 Club was a blast for me! There's a thread around here somewhere about it...

Jangleguy, I'm can't make SpeedWeek this year so I'm heading for the USFRA meet. It will be my first USFRA meet. Whats it like compared to SpeedWeek? I've heard its more laid back and less crowded.

A word of advice,..... If you avoid the strip club in Wendover, you'll save at least $50

    Stevie:

Per one of the previous posts, you really need to try Maxton.

I have a dream of running at the "Big" event as well, but Maxton is ideal in that they use the same rule book as the SCTA and you can work on getting a car dialled in "Back East" before spending the big $$$$'s to drag it 4500 + miles.

The next meet will be September 19-20. BTW Maxton is near Laurinburg, NC. Dont know where you are in GA to gauge how long a drive it is. The admission is only $5 and you can camp there for free. It is a small event and everyone is helpful and friendly. I am going to try and make it the September event, will let you know if I am going to actually make it.
