Rob and I will also miss this wonderful publication!!!! John, I know your Father has been looking down on you and is so proud of you!!

You and Suanne put everything you had into this effort and what a fantastic job you accomplished. What a huge success this magazine was for you, I know that under any other conditions it would live to thrive for many years to come, just as it was doing at its demise.

In my eyes this could NEVER be considered a failure, only a victim of unfortunate circumstances. You should be espically proud of such a "SUCCESS" given the state of the economy the past few years!!

I am so glad to have "Uncle Charlie" residing in our garage :D:p for his transformation!!

I will not, however be mailing my check back.... I'll just give it to you, LOL

For any that are interested I just took this shot about 20 mins ago ;)

Best of luck to You and Suanne and DeLaney, We are proud to call you friend!

I first heard about Hometown Hot Rods when John was gearing up to put one out and shot him a quick note if he was looking for some help on it. He was great to get back with me and hire me on to shoot for him from time to time. I'm gonna miss the magazine very much. I always liked seeing coverage that wasn't just West Coast oriented all the time. The Magazine had so much potential and John never wanted to sacrifice quality from the paper it was printed on down to the writing that was in it. Keep in touch John!

They are great people that put out an excellent magazine. The following and success they achieved in such a short amount of time speaks volumes about them. I have every issue, so their mag will be greatly missed. I wish them well in all they do, and voided the check. I only wish more businesses ran with the integrity that they do. I'm sure that anything they try in the future will work well for them.

If you aren't going to cash the checks, have the decency to send them back. Nothing sucks more than to have a bank account out there that you have to hold open for a year or more because you don't want to get beat up for bounced checks. Write VOID on them and send them back to him.

Good luck, John. It was a good mag that I was able to see a time or two.

I have to praise someone that has to stop something they love but take time to refund peoples money, I hope there are many who do not cash checks, Thank you John and good luck.

  15. I don't have the letter in front of me, but I thougt John Stated, cash the check within 3 months or it will be void, so I figured not cashing it would work out fine. If this is not the case, let us know and I'll gladly slap a stamp on it and send it back if it will help.
By the way, I always wonder'd if John or the magazine had an identity on the hamb...

I would see John at different shows around the country - and it is hard when you have a "real" job that you gotta handle along with family - so I understand what he was up against.

This guy is the real deal - genuine and intelligent - I think we may see John at a later date down the road - this is in his blood - and perhaps after a layoff of a year - we will get to see another issue?

Look at Gearhead magazine - they are on issue 18.....they have been out for 13 years! Or something crazy like that...........anyway - lets hope everything goes great for him and his family and John should know that the door is still open to a lot of people that loved his magazine.

Sorry to hear that. I figured something was up when I didn't see him at Indy Goodguys or the Road Rocket show. John is a good guy, and I too will be sending my check back if I get one....

  24. It might be nice to have a hometown hot rod page' or club, or such. I know I'd really like to see an Unkle charlie update by now, even if it only features a rattle can shot of primer.

I saw this on HHR's website in the time to say goodbye section:

"Our 1955 Buick project vehicle Uncle Charlie which appeared in several issues is now fully under construction, given my newfound evening free time. Pictures of the build will be added to this site monthly beginning in early August 2009. I have received many inquiries about poor old Charlie, which due to my frenetic work pace sat untouched for nearly a year. We hope to have a pretty good car put together by this time next year. You can follow our progress (or lack thereof) on the photo page."

I keep checking, haven't found photos yet, but I keep looking.
